Their follow-up single to "What I've Done" is a slowed-down melodic song - quite a change for them, and it sounds great! Sounds similar to what Maroon5 would record for a ballad. I'm hoping "Shadow of the Day" will be their biggest Hot AC hit because it certianly deserves to be. So far, only Mix 96.9 (Phoenix) is giving it any significant airplay. There's not a video for it yet, but you can still hear the song on YouTube - www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hs5ExzpwEE4&mode=related&search=

Great song! Should be huge. I'm surprised though that WB hasn't had that video deleted yet...usually they're right on top of things.

This will easily become their biggest hit yet on this format at least, where Linkin Park have barely even made the Top 20 before yet.
However, I still think they'd get a larger hit off of "Leave Out All The Rest" than this among their gentler songs. Though I prefer the former, the latter sounds more intended for radio with its arguably borderline-boy band arrangement and accessible lyrics, whereas the former has more depth and is more lyrically contemplative.
Nevertheless, this should receive a respectable amount of airplay, and I think will become the band's first Top 10 on this format and their fourth-biggest hit to date on CHR/Pop (behind "In The End", "Numb" and "Breaking The Habit")
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

That worries me some because if "Won't Go Home" will be the next single after "Wake Up Call", the Hot AC chart will likely have 2 songs that sound almost identical competing for airplay points. I can't believe how much attention Mix 96.9 is giving this song. That seems to be the only station so far that is spinning "Shadow" in moderate to heavy rotation.

This song is finally getting some adds - slowly but surely. Mix 96.9 in Phoenix was the 1st to give it any significant airplay. Now, KUDD in Salt Lake City has added it into moderate airtime.
It deserves to be Linkin Park's biggest hit.

Video is incredible and IMO so is the song!! I'm thinkin it'll peak in the upper teens Hot AC or maybe brush the Top 10...I think it's gonna get some negative callout though from people who want to hear more upbeat songs and I'm not sure it'll do so well on HAC stations that lean more pop - it'll be a smash on Modern AC stations I think
I wish it was a #1 song - but I think it's too introspective and serious for some Hot AC listeners
Also not a good sign IMO that it's down 3 plays and in the 70's plays range on Triple A
Reminds me of a song I thought would be huge called "Lie On Lie" by Chalk Farm back in 1996 (sort of a Vertical Horizon-type band), but it completely flopped everywhere but Triple A and some Alternative stations (which would be Modern AC nowadays) b/c of negative callout from people who thought it was too depressing, serious (and intelligent) for them

Almost top 40! It takes a big leap with +101 in spins - most of it from modern ACs (once again).
Glad to see that this is taking off like it should. It's a nice and needed change of pace for Linkin Park - a band that was more known for combining hip-hop with rock in their earlier days. This might even go for adds at AC - in another 9 months or so.

This might even go for adds at AC Really don't think so...it's too "dark" for AC stations which call themselves "Sunny..." and "Magic..." I wish it would though!

That is one unique station...like a combination of Hot AC, Triple A, and Country, with some CHR-only songs - they must be labeled as "AC" cause no one knows what to label them...it's a pretty small market, and some of those stations get to cover literally all types of music If they're playin country though, they must be competing with high-rated country stations (which is prob. the most upbeat type of music) so I seriously doubt they'll play Linkin Park

I'm sure they don't play "In the End" or "Numb", but you have to remember that "Shadow of the Day" is soft-rock compared to most anything else Linkin Park has put out. Even though it has a dark theme behind it, I think it's certainly light-sounding enough to grab the interest of some regular AC stations - in another 8 or 9 months perhaps!

+170 according to the last 7-day rolling chart. Not as much of a gain as what I'd like to see, but it's still a good sign of upward movement.
May not be as big of a hit as it could be if other stronger gainers prevent it from moving up as much.

^The thing is CHRs and HACs that are competing with huge country stations tend to avoid music which is not upbeat, so don't think this has a chance on that station...

I still get the feeling that "Shadow" will receive some AC play in another 2 months or so. I think it'll hold off until after the 1st of the year because AC is really starting to pump the Christmas carols now - and those holiday songs will dominate that chart until just after the new year. Seems doubtful that AC would want "Shadow of the Day" played along side "Holly Jolly Christmas".

^That'd be really cool if ACs did play this, but IMO any AC that adds Linkin Park needs to be reclassified as Hot AC cause a soft upbeat mix of music that "picks you up and makes you feel good" (the slogan of most AC stations I think) can't possibly include this song...I also can't imagine it being played at work on "the station everyone can agree on"

I only heard part of it, but it's an awesome song and I hope it peaks high here on Hot AC.

It looks like it will be a decent-sized hit after all - definitely Linkin Park's 1st top 10 hit on this format. +135 in spins this week.
You know, when I 1st heard this song, I mentioned that it sounded similar to Maroon5. The more I hear it, I think it sounds very close to something U2 might have done in the '80s - most notably "With or Without You".

Yeah they def. upped the tempo of the song for HAC and CHR which IMO made a big difference

Glad that they went away from their usual style for a change... I just wish they didn't have to borrow U2's style. It's a good song, but it really sounds like a U2 knockoff to me. With that said, it's still probably my favorite song by Linkin Park.
