Longing for the days when Kelly Clarkson automatically went top 10 and P!nk didn't.  Oh well, this probably will go top 10 though. Too bad the only song of hers I liked didn't do as hot ("Don't let me get me"). |

My local Portland, Oregon Hot AC station is the only station on the format that still plays "Stupid Girls" (it's STILL regularly in the playlist's Top 30) despite the single failing to peak high on Hot AC and having no staying power. I think for a while there had been cult support for Pink's singles below the radar among a small handful of random stations ever since Pink experienced a downward spiral commerically from the "Misundazstood" era (although, despite playing "Stupid Girls" regularly, the Portland station wasn't among the first to play "U + Ur Hand".) I think Pink now has a great opportunity to capitalize on the success of "U + Ur Hand" on this format as well and perhaps establish herself as a staple artist here along with Kelly Clarkson and Avril Lavigne, both of which implement an edgier sound to their pop appeal. Pink having lower peaking singles during the "Misundazstood" era may have had something to do with male songwriters and bands having more of the lion's share of the format previously, and also the format being less CHR/Rhythmic overall, where Pink's earlier material, even during the "Misundazstood" era, still had more of her R&B shadow, as opposed to the straight-up popular rock sound of "I'm Not Dead" (other than "Stupid Girls") and "Try This". I think it's gonna start moving more slowly b/c a lot of Hot AC stations are still really heavy on "U+Ur Hand" and I can't see both being played significantly at the same time on Hot AC -

And now that she had such a smash with "U +Ur Hand", her label rightfully thought that now would be a good time to try promoting "Who Knew" again. "Rockstar" by Nickelback is another example of a song getting a second chance at life. Now if the record label would only rerelease "Maneater" by Nelly Furtado, then we'd be all set! |
