I honestly don't think it would have done as good (at least on CHR/POP,) without her. Actually it was almost the opposite...lots of CHR/pop stations chose to play the Counting Crows version w/o Vanessa Carlton, while almost all the Hot AC stations played the version with V. C.

How do you know this? On the 4 CHR/POP stations I can pick up on my car, all 4 of them played with VC.

Just by listenin to the CHR stations around me...I also had to drive from Charlotte NC to Boston a lot and most of the CHR stations that were playin "Big Yellow Taxi" played the version w/o V. C. - WNKS/Charlotte, WKZL/Greensboro, WDCG/Raleigh, WSTW/Wilmington, and WPST/Trenton - while all of the HAC stations I used to hear playin it played the version with V. C. It could've been a regional thing though...

Every station here on the pop panel played the VC version. You are the first person I have heard that mentioned that there was a non VC version being played.
But, as for the original disagreement I do not think anyone will truly deny that Avril is by far the most popular of the three (and arguably the only truly successful one of the three. I know thats arguable because people will pounce on me and scream that Michelle is wildly successful with The Wreckers, but I guess I mean the only one that is having huge billboard hits and selling millions worldwide and VERY well known still is Avril) Michelle comes in second (a distant second) and Vanessa last. In popularity-its sad because quality wise Vanessa is head and shoulders above other singer songwriters around her age. She is just an absolutely fabulous, talented songwriter and I hope that she eventually finds a niche either writing for people or with her own hits.

Every station here on the pop panel played the VC version. That's not true...three huge CHR stations in the Carolinas played the version w/o VC - WNKS, WKZL, and WDCG and they're all on the pop panel

With the fact that she only got one new add this week, I think she's doing pretty well, considering most of the songs around her are gaining because of new adds. She's still only on 33 stations. New album out in just a little over a week. Hopefully that will gather several more adds in the next week or two.

They cut extra people out of songs like "Jenny From The Block" (which is one I remember spacifically cuz the intro sounded so empty without that guy saying whatever he was saying), Jay-Z out of Beyonce songs, etc.

She's just barely hanging on right now. However, she got 3 more adds this week and only a few stations are lowering her spins, like San Francisco which is -12. Come on, she wrote a song about their city! They should be able to give Vanessa a little more love than that! Hopefully, she'll get a second wind next week with the album release. KT Tunstall got a little bit of help, but look at her now. :(

"Spring Street" actually has half as many plays on AC as "Nolita Fairytale."

This is an excellent song that is getting hosed for the most part at Hot AC. In my opinion, this is the perfect format for a song like this to be thriving on. I'm not giving up on it yet though. Look at how many weeks "U + Ur Hand" was mired in the 25 to 30 range before it finally took off. Ditto for "Nothing Left To Lose" last year. Both of those songs were on the chart for almost 20 weeks before they broke into the top 15, so anything is possible with Vanessa.

"Nolita" may be suited for Hot AC, as well as regular AC and Triple-A; however, I find this song rather boring. It's similar-sounding to her huge 2002 hit "A Thousand Miles" - a mellow song that is kind of sleepy in nature. "Nolita" also has basically the same feel as "Bubbly". Perhaps that's why Vanessa's song is struggling right now. Stations might be reluctant to give 2 songs heavy airplay that sound similar.

I guess Vanessa's sound only really appeals to her fans. Everyone else is just kind of like "eh..okay..boring..whatever." It makes me sad, but really, there isn't anything I can do but continue to support her no matter what the general public thinks. I'm sorry that Vanessa didn't sing a song about bringing sexy back nor was she writing the chorus of her song when she was drunk. Vanessa is so far above that and the general public. That doesn't mean she is a snot, it means she is educated and talented and rather not dumb herself down and sell herself short. As for this sounding like "A Thousand Miles," I don't hear it, but then again I know Vanessa Carlton songs very well, so I'm able to distinguish them from one another. I don't know what the ears of the general public hear.

Oh exactly! I was thinking about this last night how Vanessa writes these great lyrics and then Avril Lavigne pragerizes a song and shouts "HEY HEY YOU YOU I DONT LIKE YOUR BOYFRIEND" and all the teen girls rush to the store to make their parents buy it.

There are still only 43 stations playing this!! She got 3 more adds this week. If only more stations would add this this could really take off. Her audience continues to increase though! It looks like Mat Kearney may pass her soon, but Emerson Hart is going recurrent, so she didn't lose her position. But now we also have to watch Timbaland.
