Must take that back because if Dees used the Cashbox charts, it did happen.

Most of the show is the same as the Pop version. This is his way of protesting having to do three shows instead of two.

Duran Duran hit #1 on the R&R charts as well, the week after "Out Of Touch" spent a week at #1 and the week before "Like A Virgin" hit #1.

"Wild Boys" also topped the "Top 40 Satellite Survey" charts. Not sure if that show ever went by "Cash Box" or not.

Rick has done some lousy specials in the past, but this one takes the cake! Granted, the CHR version of the show is good, and if he had actually done a true Hot AC # 1's show, it would have been great! But just browsing the list, how many of those songs have made it to # 1 on Hot AC... let alone charted!!! "Run It" at 35? "Dilemma" at # 13? How Hot AC friendly is this show?

2 more things that bother me:

1) 6 of the Top 10 songs are from the last 12-15 months.
2) Where are songs like "Name", "Slide", "Iris", "Push", "If You're Gone", "Bent", "Calling All Angels", "Why Don't You and I", "Unwell", "Savin' Me", "Hanging By a Moment". All # 1 Hot AC hits. And I know the list could continue for quite some time.

I think I'll continue sticking to AT20.

After posting that yesterday a big "D'OH" moment hit me as half of those hits were from the late 90's. I guess I was still have thinking of the Top American HAC acts thread we had. But still, the special was not true to Hot AC at all.

That list is a crock; if 'Run It' refers to that Chris Brown song, thenany Hot AC PD who played that song should have been fired on the spot.

Hot AC is not a format for rap music; it's explicitly an adult-friendly format.

Also, 'Soak Up The Sun' spent two months at #1 at Hot AC; why the hell isn't it on his preposterous list?????????

I don't think the numbers really mean much. It was just the order the songs were played, which was pretty random.

Obviously, the reason that Dees used so many songs that hit #1 on CHR (and in some cases came nowhere near charting) is that, because of the slow turnover rate of number one songs this decade, there wouldn't be enough songs to produce such a show. But the solution for that is just as obvious - to only do a one-week show for Hot AC. There might not be enough number one songs even then, but in those cases, they could have used number one CHR/Pop songs that peaked in the Top Five of the Hot AC chart. That would have made a lot more sense rather than to include crap like "Buttons", "Run It", "Promiscuous", "Ain't It Funny" and so forth. That's a good way to affect a station's ratings. Someone tunes into their favorite Hot AC station, hoping to hear something by John Mayer or The Fray only to hear LL Cool J rapping. I'm sure I'd be disgusted.

While there are a few HAC stations that probably got away with running this show easy, I would say for the majority, the show was a major shift from regular programming. I know that if I was a HAC PD running Dees and this two week special came in my mailbox, I would have definately questioned keeping the show.

Yeah, I wonder if any stations decided to just scrap the special shows and just ran regular programming during the usual Rick Dees time slot. I probably would have, since as I said, so many of the songs listed above are unplayable at the Hot AC format. As I mentioned, they should have just gone with a one-week show and played only songs that topped the Hot AC chart, which there would have been enough of. I just checked and it appears that there were 45 songs that topped the Hot AC chart since January 1, 2000, so that would easily fill up the list, with one song left over. The one that would have likely been excluded is "Breathe" by Faith Hill, since that spent a lone week at number one back in the spring of 2000 and besides, that's pretty much out of format at Hot AC radio (quite frankly, it didn't really fit the format then, especially to go all the way to number one).
Of course, this is the R&R Hot AC chart we're talking about. I'm not sure what year Dees stopped using the CHR chart with holes poked in it for his AC show, nor am I sure if the number one songs since 2005 were the same as R&R. But regardless of that, he should have done the Hot AC show over one week and stuck to songs that topped the Hot AC chart.
