Last month we had a great thread on WTMX in Chicago based on the April PPD. The new May PPD now ranks The Mix 101.9 as the number one music station in the market and number three station overall. The news is almost as good in Houston where WDMX is a strong # 4 12+, with the largest gain in listenership among the top stations going from a 3.4-4.5.
Will the good news continue for major market Hot ACs during the summer months?
What is fueling this upsurge? Great music from Rob Thomas, Nickelback, Katy Perry and Shinedown?

I think a combination of both great music from the Hot AC core as you just mentioned, and from pop-crossover music in a market that is devoid for all intents and purposes of a true CHR station. Kiss 103.5 does NOT count as a mainstream CHR, irregardless of what format it reports to. Great to see the Mix though pushing a 5 share! Their 4.8 12+ share is another all-time high for them. Keep up the great work!

Yeah same...prob. is IMO Chicago and Detroit are Clear Channel, and Balt. doesn't have a CHR

Both WKQI and WKSC are doing well though.
WKQI is only 0.2 behind WDVD. Why mess with what's working?
WKSC is top 10 in Chicago and way ahead of Rhythmic B96. If WKSC shifts towards the mainstream, it gives B96 a chance to catch up. By switching to mainstream, WKSC could lose just as many listeners to B96 as it gains on Mix.
In Baltimore, I fully expect Clear Channel to launch a mainstream CHR on 104.3 a month or two after PPM's are started there. I think Clear Channel wants to see how their Alternative station does with PPM before switching, but that station is really, really struggling at this point. If CC doesn't do it, Classic Rock WZBA should. They're struggling quite a bit too.
Also, Baltimore Mix's numbers are less impressive when you consider how few FM's there are in Baltimore. There's only 9 full-market commercial music stations there, and Mix is #5 out of 9.

As usual, Atlantaboy's analysis teaches me something that I didn't know. NOW I understand why after three months, I still can't get into 92.3 Now-FM in NY. Obviously, they concede all of the great pop hits to fellow CBS station Fresh 102.7 leaving behind a playlist heavy in rhythmic/hip hop content.

I agree that WTMX preogramming is great. Hope that their stream sound quality (not a bitrate) will become a bit better. How about KKSN-FM, 99.7 Kiss FM, in Kansas City, MO. While Kansas City has a very good Mainstream CHR station, KMXV-FM, Mix 93.3 (one of my favorites), the new Entercom Hot AC station's programming is very well balanced between, Mainstream CHR, Hot AC and Adult Contemporary. I hope that their rating will be getting better. player.streamtheworld.com/_players/entercom/player/?id=KKSN

Well WTMX hit another all time high with a 5.1 12+ share in the latest PPM report! That puts it just .1 behind second place N/T WBBM-AM and well behind first place N/T WGN with a 6.1.
And this makes the Mix the number one music station in Chicago for the third month in a row! Very impressive!
