Goes for adds in Hot AC on the 2nd of February (Allaccess)
A pretty upbeat track (when compared to Shattered) and I can see this easily reaching Top 10.

This will actually be a re-release, as "This Town" was originally released as the lead single from "All Sides".

If this is the song I've heard on our HOTAC station, and I'm thinking it is, it's a real disappointment for me. They come from my town and so our station plays them to death, but this is not a great song for me.

It's fine that the band wants to reach a wider audience and write songs compatible for radio. I just wish they could have done so while maintaining the spirit of their early releases as well; that epic, introspective, fun-loving sound.........but you hardly hear any traces of their pre-Stories Of A Stranger material on "All Sides". Vertical Horizon could have very well written and recorded "All Sides" and no one would have noticed the difference. There's nothing special about that album. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

Actually, their last single was brilliant as far as I'm concerned, and I guess that set up some expectations for this one. Their song "Love and Memories" is also great. This just doesn't stack up, at all.
And good point about Vertical Horizon. That was a band where they had one good song, and then you realized the whole album was pretty generic overall.

The highlight of this is that incredible bassline. This is a great track for spring, even if it's not their best.

Why does everyone hate it so much?

Hey, I liked Vertical Horizon.
Not every band is great at songwriting. For crying out loud, Coldplay's "Clocks" and "Speed of Sound" were practically the same song in a different key. A lot of the time, it's not about the band, but how easily entertained the audience is.

CDs of all time! IMO Vertical Horizon was much "deeper" in their lyrics than O. A. R., and had a sound that no one had heard before (but they kinda hit writers block after one big CD) Also really impressed with This Town...almost has a rap-style hook to it - wonderin if Cumulus CHRs will pick up on it like they did Shattered...

^Same here...it's kinda got a Who Says You Can't Go Home/John Melloncamp thing goin on (i. e. town pride songs I think tend to fit in well on Hot AC)...prob. gonna hit a "block" on CHR though I think cause small town pride and city/suburban teens kinda don't mix all the time
