Rick Dees Weekly Top 40 Hot AC 3/21/09

Another relatively slow chart this week with the biggest mover belonging to the Plain White T's "1, 2, 3, 4". I don't understand why this song is still about three or four weeks behind the official charts, and why "Rock & Roll" by Eric Hutchinson is dropping while the song is still bulleted and at its peak on the official charts. But that's Rick Dees for you!

I just copy the chart off of his website. They don't list the extras and I'm too lazy to listen to the countdown on line.

Out of curiosity, because I haven't heard Rick Dees in a very long time (ever since my station switched over to AT40), is it true that he makes up these charts for the most part? And yes indeed, it looks like it's several weeks behind the official charts...

For instance, how can "Human" be ranked at #15?

According to some sources it is his affiliates (which probably ain't many) are the ones that determine the charts. Thus, the playlists from those affiliates are used for his chart. Unfortunately I really cannot find any proof or confirmation to all of this. When I do, I will post it here....

This is what I heard awhile back too. I think Hot AC Guru mentioned that once. If I'm wrong Guru, please feel free to correct me. :)

Now, whether it's his affilates that do make up the chart, it still looks like Rick will fudge some of these positions. I mean I have never seen a week without at least one debut. What are the chances of that?!

Also, you will very rarely, if ever see a song move back up the chart once it is past its peak on the way down like you see on the AT 40 chart (ie: "Bubbly" and "Paralyzer"). Which once again leads me to believe that he does not use actual raw data (ie: Mediabase or BDS) to compile the chart. It does make for a more interesting chart as songs move in and out quicker, but that is not necessarily accurate. But this may account for the lag of the Plain White T's, although their song is now starting to catch up to the official charts.
