thanks for posting canmusic, I didn't get access to the cue sheet this week. Do you listen to AT40 on CJFM montreal? I know they play their own optional extras at the end of each hour.

No problem at all. I was more than glad to post this week's chart!

I do listen to the AT40 on CJFM Montreal, which airs it every Saturday morning.

The station started playing their own optional extras sometime back in September, and they are played only if enough time is left at the end of each hour. If the show runs too late, the optional extras are skipped.

Thanks for providing the optional extras and I'll add them to the list.

Oh, man... how sad is it that a song that's now been on the chart for a YEAR is the biggest upward mover?

Seriously. It seems that unless any of the newer, current songs has the biggest jump during a given week, the remaining recurrents (especially those on the chart for close to or more than a year) more or less take a turn moving the most places on the chart.

On the other hand, a song that's just a month old gets the dubious honor of moving down the most spots - only 3.

Yes, this chart is getting silly now. There needs to be some sort of recurrent rule here. If their goal is to keep the chart slow enough so they don't play too many songs that people would be unfamiliar with, than how about they split the difference and establish a recurrent rule of no song older than 52 weeks below the top 20? That would still limit the number of new songs, but at the same time give the newer songs a chance to stay on longer. This would also allow a few more new songs to chart than would otherwise not make it.

But I guess this makes too much sense for them to try!

This chart is not unusual to me, anymore. These songs can stay on as long as they want, unfortunately. Blame the radio stations if you will. Let's face it, although I am not actively in the radio business. I know enough to understand that these records are NOT getting as much airplay as CHR is, if that makes any sense. Typically Hot AC stations plays per day or week differ from CHR. Hot AC basically is an oldies format with some currents, which all of you may consider and remember. Thus, it's almost impossible for an average Hot AC listener to get burned out on a current record within a short period of six months. This isn't the 1980s when labels are consistently releasing singles for most artists. It seems to me, only the major artists that are likely to sell records get that privilege to release more than just three singles. That's is my thought. Please comment or respond, I 'd like to know what everyone else thinks. I am open.

The week before, Colbie Caillat's "Bubbly" - the OLDEST song on the survey, mind you - shared the biggest move with Missy Higgins' "Where I Stood". However, that's understandable, as "Bubbly" was heard on lots of year-end countdowns. Same goes for Sara Bareilles' "Love Song", which moved 29-24 last week.

BTW, I found out that 98.3 The Coast did not drop AT40. They just moved it to Sunday night. That works perfectly, since I can listen to the CHR version during the morning and the Hot AC version in the evening. It used to be the other way around (The Coast previously ran the show on Sunday nights and U93 in South Bend runs the CHR show twice.) This is sort of good, since I like to wind down on Sunday nights and I'm sorry, but hearing tons of rap and hip-hop songs are not at all conducive to relaxation.
