You may remember this group's 2000 single "Leaving Town" - it was a solid top-30 hit on Alternative radio, and also crossed over to Pop radio in early 2001, denting the top 40. This also had a follow-up called "My Madonna". Now, this new single from the band is going for AAA adds on October 12.

I was just thinking about "Leaving Town" the other day when I was remembering songs that deserved to be huge hits a decade ago. "Leaving Town" along with Splender - "I Think God Can Explain", New Radicals - "You Get What You Give", Andreas Johnson - "Glorious", and VAST - "I Don't Have Anything" are the minor Hot AC hits that fell short from that era that I remembered rooting hard for in 6th and 7th grade. There were other songs that deserved better as well, but those were from artists that had other huge hits.
"You Get What You Give" was decently big, but it didn't even go top 10 when it should have been #1.

I didn't think Dexter Freebish was still around.

I didn't think Dexter Freebish was still around. Neither did I. The only thing I heard about them between the time "My Madonna" charted and this single announcement was made was that they performed at the Republican National Convention. That's it. They've been completely off the radar otherwise. Namaste, Lisping Hibiscus

I Think God Can Explain did pretty well on CHR - peaked at #19 but spent 20 weeks on - not sure how it did on HAC - great song though IMO And really weird how a band like Dexter Freebish would take a 9-year break from recording

While I don't picture musicians as likely republicans in general, they're one of the last bands that I'd ever expect to have republican affiliations. I mean they are from Texas, but...

Then again, Daddy Yankee performed at the RNC once.

6-year break. They had an album in 2004 called "Tripped into Divine" which went nowhere; I believe the attempted single off of that was called "Prozak".

By the way, what did "I Don't Have Anything" by VAST peak at?

Oh holy crap this thread has me nostalgic for my college years. The station I was PD at in college played Dexter Freebish, VAST, Splender and more pretty heavily. "Prozak" by Dexter Freebish was our listener voted #1 song in 2004.
Memories!
