I mean stuff like Lady Gaga and Ka$$a goes to this format but not The Roots or Mos Def. What the reason for this? The same reason Hot AC plays 3 Doors Down and Nickelback, but not Slipknot or Five Finger Death Punch. They're both rock, right? Part of the wide appeal of Hot AC, I think, is that if a listener doesn't like a particular song, usually they can still tolerate it, giving them less reason to change the station because there may be a song they really like playing next. But with genres like Rap and hard Rock, the people who don't like it REALLY don't like it, and will change the station as soon as it comes on. /my2cents

Rap may not specifically crossover to Hot AC, but the whole electropop phase going on right now is working very well with the format. The demographic who listens to Hot AC mostly grew up listening and partying to electro-style 80s music and may explain why 80s reminiscent electropop such as Lady Gaga's music and tracks like 'California Gurls' have been doing exceptionally well on the format. And don't forget the most 80's electropop influenced song charting right now, "Bulletproof" by La Roux.

I agree that the electro genre a good fit for hot ac. I think maybe Draft Punk and Chemical Brothers could do well on this format.

And also do they edit Snoop rap in Calfornia Gulas? Yes they do! Instead of Snoop's verse, most hot ac stations play a version that has the California Gurls hook playing a few times instead of his verse.

Most do, but WTMX in Chicago just started playing the Snoop Dogg version last week. Just another sign of the more CHR direction they seem to be going towards. They also added Eminem/Rihanna "Love The Way You Lie", and the Pitbull version of Enrique Iglesias's "I Like It". Not a good direction to go to unless they have every intent of going full blown CHR someday.

Maybe they are going to be a CHR station. They did play In The End on some CHR stations but that a rock song with rapping.
