A pretty active week as we have four new entries this week, as we say goodbye to Kate Voegele, Safetysuit, Kelly Clarkson and....Kelly Clarkson again! Not all is bad for her though as her latest hit moves into the top 15. Also Train holds onto the biggest mover title for the second week in a row. And congratulations to the Black Eyed Peas who score their first Hot AC top 5 hit this week with "I Gotta Feeling".

I kind of wish "Boom Boom Pow", "Sober", "Poker Face" and "Not Meant To Be" had dropped off instead of "99 Times" and "Stay", still, I'm glad there was some movement after a run of one-debut weeks.
Does Rick interview Carey before the #35 song, or when "We Belong Together" is played?

As usual Rick did not designate how well the song did on the Hot AC chart as he stated WBT spent 5 weeks at #1. Obviously that is how well it did on the CHR chart, but of course he and/or his staff are too lazy to differentiate between the two charts! A minor squabble though since I favor his chart over that other much more stale chart that that Ryan guy counts down!

I believe "We Belong Together" reached #16 on the R-n-R HAC chart, which I think is her highest charting solo hit on that format.

However, keep in mind that if the R & R/Mediabase Hot AC chart existed in the beginning of the 90's when Carey scored some of her biggest hits, I have no doubt in my mind that some of those songs would have been huge Hot AC hits as well. "We Belong Together" on the other hand was not one of them. :)

On the R&R/Mediabase HAC charts, Mariah has had 5 top 10s, including a #1 with "One Sweet Day".
On BB's Adult top 40, she's had 2 top 10s, including the aforementioned "One Sweet Day".

I don't believe Carey has hit the HAC Top 10 in at least a decade, which makes it all the more interesting... how many artists who do well in CHR actually become LESS successful in HAC over time? I can't imagine too many.

I should have gone back and looked up some of those mid 90's HAC charts. I guess I was thinking back to the very early 90's during Mariah's "Vision of Love" era!

Interesting note: Rick said that Mariah corrected him on the number of #1 songs she had. She had 18, not 15 and she had told him that he was going by the wrong chart. She must've meant Billboard whereas he was going by his own CHR chart.

So Mariah told Rick, who in spite of my many complaints about his inaccuracies does have his own chart, that he was looking at the wrong chart? Is Mariah Carey the keeper of the official top 40? I could call him up and say that on my personal chart, Mariah had zero #1 songs, and tell him he was wrong. And people wonder why I criticize her so much....

That's not her call to make, especially on someone else's countdown show! She probably went by the Billboard Hot 100 chart, where most songs practically debut at number one!

Here are Mariah's number ones from CHR:
Vision Of Love Love Takes Time Someday I Don't Wanna Cry Emotions Can't Let Go Make It Happen I'll Be There Dreamlover Hero Fantasy One Sweet Day Always Be My Baby We Belong Together Shake It Off
... And I count 15 with "Always Be My Baby" being considered as a #1 (it really only peaked at 2 on CHR, but Rick's chart was in its urban phase, and it spent two weeks at #1 there in 1996, so I suppose you could say Rick is actually exaggerating). And 15 is a pretty impressive number - one shouldn't have to argue it.

And who cares if he got it wrong anyways? Everyone knows Rick is a senile old coot who can't be trusted worth crap for anything. He once called Thriving Ivory "Throbbing Ivory" after they had been on his countdown for several weeks and even made a guest appearance. When "Womanizer" debuted on his CHR chart he said it was her first single since "Piece Of Me"... WRONG. "Hollywood's Not America" never even made his CHR chart but was somehow 89 on the year end top 100..... crazy old coot.
