In the 1981 show, Casey talked about the Commodores and Tuskegee AL. He said it is a town of 11,000 persons. Now it is listed as 9301 persons population decreasing. Home of the Tuskegee Institute which is the almamater of the Commodores. Now Tuskegee Institute is closed and part of the National Park Service historical monument for George Washington Carver and Booker T Washington. There is the Tuskegee University.
There is no CliveAnn Street or Commodore circle around the town square.
The only thing Commodores is a banner with Lionel's picture on a pole near the town square and another banner by the Commodore Museum which has been closed for years. This is on the main street that runs through town.

I'm beginning to believe, given that there's a Ken Martin (converting monaural audio to stereo) reference in the credits, that he got to pick these with Toby Petty's approval. Not sure why any mono-to-stereo conversion would be needed for a 1977 show but, on a related note, there was something else very strange about that 7/23/1977 show.
Anyone else notice the numerous monaural mixes? "On and On" by Stephen Bishop, "Way Down" by Elvis Presley, "Smoke From a Distant Fire" by Sanford-Townsend Band, "How Much Love" by Leo Sayers, ... There may have been more but I turned it off. The show apparently came this way from Premiere because I heard it on both KOKZ and KMCH. All of those hits were stereo mixes in previous airings. What's up with that?? EDIT: The segments were broken up differently than in previous airings. Maybe that explains the snafu.

...In the show's previous three airings the optional extras were - in order - "Star Wars (Main Title)" by London Symphony Orchestra, "Cold As Ice" by Foreigner and "Boogie Nights" by Heatwave. All three of these extras had chart relevancy (all were in the Hot 100). But this time around, Premiere does away with all of these and instead decides to sub them with random outside 1977 extras. I don't like it either but, I wonder if Premiere thought the average, casual, widest-possible-audience listener (the non-fans with their radios on) might appreciate an hourly break from July, 1977.

I would like to know how Casey would answer this question: Is shaking your booty the same thing as shaking your groove thing?

Listening to the 1987 show this morning, I realized The Jets had five top 10 hits without ever hitting #1.
Is there any listing of artists that had five or more top 10 hits without hitting #1? I imagine Bruce Springsteen would top the list, but just wondering if anyone knew a site that shows a complete listing of that club.

CCR has 9, James Brown, ELO & the Pointer Sisters each have 7, Journey, En Vogue, Xscape, One Direction & Sam Smith each have 6. Those are the ones I know off the top of my head so far (not counting artists like Lil Baby & J. Cole who're popular in the streaming age and get top 10 hits mostly through features or entire albums charting on the Hot 100 at once).

This weekend, there are TWO '70s shows and TWO '80s shows so once again the weekend preview will be a two-parter. I'll start first with the '70s and once you check out the '70s and '80s extras this weekend, you'll find some coincidental timing given the news we were dealt yesterday. The "A" show for this week is from 8/12/1972. Here is my repost from 2014: Three songs debuted this week: "Back Stabbers" - The O'Jays (#37) "Sweet Inspiration/Where You Lead" - Barbra Streisand (#39) "Saturday In The Park" - Chicago (#40) Three songs fell out of the Top 40 this week: "Too Young" - Donny Osmond (#26) "People Make The World Go Round" - The Stylistics (#30) "I Wanna Be Where You Are" - Michael Jackson (#37) Biggest Mover: "The Guitar Man" - Bread (#39 to #26) Biggest Dropper: "Take It Easy" - The Eagles (#19 to #38) Original extras: None Premiere optional extras Hour #1: "The City Of New Orleans" - Arlo Guthrie (#59) Hour #2: "Go All The Way" - The Raspberries (#45) Hour #3: "Popcorn" - Hot Butter (#44) The "B" show for this week is from 8/12/1978. Here is my repost from 2013: Three songs debuted this week: "Reminiscing" - Little River Band (#34) "Just What I Needed" - The Cars (#39) "Close The Door" - Teddy Pendergrass (#40) Three songs fell out of the Top 40 this week: "Take A Chance On Me" - Abba (#24) "Can We Still Be Friends" - Todd Rundgren (#29) "Dance With Me" - Peter Brown (#31) Biggest Mover: "Boogie Oogie Oogie" - A Taste Of Honey (#17 to #6) Biggest Dropper: "The Groove Line" - Heatwave (#20 to #37) Original extras: None Premiere optional extras: Hour #1: "Summer Nights" - John Travolta & Olivia Newton-John (#46) Hour #2: "You Needed Me" - Anne Murray (#43) Hour #3: "Come Together" - Aerosmith (#66) My '80s preview is coming up soon.

Now on to the two '80s shows for this week. The "A" show for this week is from 8/9/1980. Here is my repost from 2017: Four songs debuted this week (including a historic debut in the Top 10!): "Upside Down" - Diana Ross (#10) "One In A Million You" - Larry Graham (#37) "Hot Rod Hearts" - Robbie Dupree (#39) "Someone That I Used To Love" - Natalie Cole (#40) Four songs fell off the Top 40 this week: "All Night Long" - Joe Walsh (#19) "Let Me Love You Tonight" - Pure Prairie League (#33) "I'm Alive" - Electric Light Orchestra (#37) "Let's Get Serious" - Jermaine Jackson (#38) Biggest Mover: "Fame" - Irene Cara (#27 to #17) Biggest Dropper: "Steal Away" - Robbie Dupree (#15 to #36) Original extras: None Long Distance Dedications: "You Decorated My Life" - Kenny Rogers "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother" - The Hollies Archive extras (all three will be played): "Save The Last Dance For Me" - The Drifters "I Want To Be Wanted" - Brenda Lee "Georgia On My Mind" - Ray Charles Premiere optional extras: Hour #1: "Let Me Be Your Angel" - Stacy Lattisaw (#87; debuted) Hour #2: "Never Knew Love Like This Before" - Stephanie Mills (#83; debuted) Hour #3: "Xanadu" - Olivia Newton-John & Electric Light Orchestra (#79; debuted) Hour #4: "Late In The Evening" - Paul Simon (#46; highest debut) The "B" show for this week is from 8/9/1986. Here is my previous repost: Four songs debuted this week: "Stuck With You" - Huey Lewis & The News (#33) "Don't Forget Me (When I'm Gone)" - Glass Tiger (#36) "The Captain Of Her Heart" - Double (#37) "Love Zone" - Billy Ocean (#40) Four songs fell off this week: "Secret Separation" - The Fixx (#25) "There'll Be Sad Songs (To Make You Cry)" - Billy Ocean (#29) "When The Heart Rules The Mind" - GTR (#32) "No One Is To Blame" - Howard Jones (#37) Biggest Mover: "Man Size Love" - Klymaxx (#40 to #31) Biggest Dropper: "Your Wildest Dreams" - The Moody Blues (#20 to #38) Original extras: None Long Distance Dedications (there were three of those): "Think Of Laura" - Christopher Cross "I'm A Believer" - The Monkees "Mountains" - Prince & The Revolution Premiere optional extras: "Two Of Hearts" - Stacey Q (#46) "Missionary Man" - The Eurythmics (#62) "You Can Call Me Al" - Paul Simon (#83; debuted) "Twist And Shout" - The Beatles (#89; re-debuted after 22 years) FYI Premiere aired the very same shows with the very same "A/B" designation five years ago. And yes there are already Olivia Newton-John op extras planned for the '70s "B" show and the '80s "A" show. Since Olivia's death happened yesterday (Rest in Peace), that would give Premiere plenty of time to have Larry Morgan put in new voiceovers to reflect her passing.

I was listing off stats from the Hot 100 rather than AT40 itself (I'm not familiar with most of their charts from the 90s to today). On the H100, Akon had that same number of top 10s but two #1 hits.

In the 8/9/1980 show at the end of the 2nd hour Casey added a story about Olivia Newton John and played "A Little More Love." Then at the end of the 3rd hour, Larry Morgan did a tribute to Olivia with Xanadu

The "A Little More Love" extra replaced "Never Knew Love Like This Before" in the optional extra lineup. The 1978 "B" show didn't replace any of the scheduled optional extras save for Larry's reworking of the talk segments for "Summer Nights" (as an aside, KLFM in Olivia Newton-John's homeland of Australia actually went with the 1978 "B" show Friday night but they apparently got the original version of "Summer Nights" instead of the reworked version. Me thinks they don't subscribe to the digital download version of the shows). Kinda weird that Premiere would tack on an additional Olivia extra for the 1980 show but not for 1978.

During the 8/18/1984 show, the question was asked: Who had the most top 40 songs without reaching #1. The answer was given during the 8/24/1974 show.

I have a feeling Premiere may change one of the 1979 extras too but I won't know for sure until probably Sunday on WPAC. WPNC will air 1979 Tomorrow (they'll always air four-hour 1978 or 1979 when it's offered regardless of "A/B" designation) but they're interrupting Casey for high school football (I'm guessing the season just started in North Carolina). I hope this won't be a regular occurrence on Saturdays. I really wish Premiere would send revised cue sheets in the event of sudden deaths but they don't bother for some reason.

I'm listening to WPAC 8/18/1979 right now but there have been too many blips and flatlines. It may be my browser, FF. I switched over to WXXM at 9am and they started at #33.
Casey gave the story of Mitch Ryder. And he said Mitch was talking about making a comeback. He made a small comeback in 1983 with John Cougar. And John made him more famous by making his name a lyric in the song ROCK in the USA.
I always thought the song "Makin it" was a Barry Manilow song. It sounds like something he would do. I hadn't heard of David Naughton. He hadn't had anything else.
WPNC started 1979 at 5:20 pm

I always thought the song "Makin it" was a Barry Manilow song. It sounds like something he would do. I hadn't heard of David Naughton. He hadn't had anything else. Naughton first gained fame as the singing lead in Dr Pepper's "Be A Pepper" advertising campaign. That got him this series, a musical sitcom from Garry Marshall of "Happy Days" fame and Saturday Night Fever producer Robert Stigwood, who also signed Naughton to his RSO record label. Ellen Travolta, whose brother John starred in ...Fever, played Naughton's mother. The show was cancelled after only a few episodes, but Naughton went on to a slew of movie and TV acting jobs, not all of them musicals, and is best known for An American Werewolf in London.dL

Jack and Diane by John Cougar was #11 this week in 1982.
A pop/rock song from 40 years ago. But it has been remember more recently by country.
Kenny Chesney - "I Go Back" - 2004
"Jack and Diane painted a picture of my life and my dreams Suddenly this crazy world made more sense to me Well, I heard it today and I couldn't help but sing along 'Cause every time I hear that song"
Old Dominion - "No Such Thing as a Broken Heart" - 2017
I wonder if Jack and Diane ever made it After the drums and the guitars all faded Was the best they could do good enough Or did the heartland just swallow 'em up
Jake Owens "I was Jack (You were Diane) - 2018 Way back when I was Jack and you were Diane
