Any word if any affiliate will air Part Two of the Chronological #1 Hits 1970's special? It won't be WPNC because they're planning a mostly sub-hosted AT40 marathon on Monday (with Gary Owens, Bob Eubanks, Wink Martindale and Mark Elliott plus the very first AT40 hosted by Casey)

The "B" show is from 9/6/1986. Here is my repost from 2016 Premiere optional extras: Hour #1: "Sweet Love" - Anita Baker (#41) Hour #2: "I'll Be Over You" - Toto (#69) Hour #3: "Take Me Home Tonight" - Eddie Money (#64) Hour #4: "You Give Love A Bad Name" - Bon Jovi (#93; debuted)
On Saturday WXXM played 30-3 and then went back and did 12-3. Ending with the Bon Jovi Extra.
I just listened to Mixmaine and they played #4, the Bon Jovi Extra, #3 and then the Extra of 9-6-1986 Bruce Hornsby and the Range "The Way It Is" and then #2 & #1 Hour 4 got a double extra.

It won't be WPNC because they're planning a mostly sub-hosted AT40 marathon on Monday (with Gary Owens, Bob Eubanks, Wink Martindale and Mark Elliott plus the very first AT40 hosted by Casey) KOKZ aired it in their usual Saturday morning AT40 the 70's time slot. I'm listening to it now. As usual, Ken Martin did such a wonderful job of producing the 3-hour show, you might have no idea that it's a new creation.

This weekend there are TWO '70s shows and TWO '80s shows so after a week off, I'm back to two-part postings (I somehow have a feeling I'll be doing this every week from here on out until the Christmas specials become available). I'll start with the two '70s shows first. The "A" show this week is from 9/16/1972 and for once it's a show that doesn't need a repost because it was only aired one other time in 2007. Five songs debuted this week: "Garden Party" - Rick Nelson (#33) "Starting All Over Again" - Mel & Tim (#37) "Why" - Donny Osmond (#38) "You Wear It Well" - Rod Stewart (#39) "Easy Livin'" - Uriah Heap (#40) Five songs fell off this week: "Coconut" - Nilsson (#32) "The Happiest Girl In The Whole U.S.A." - Donna Fargo (#34) "Baby Let Me Take You (In My Arms)" - Detroit Emeralds (#35) "This World" - The Staple Singers (#38) "Sealed With A Kiss" - Bobby Vinton (#39) Biggest Mover: "Burning Love" - Elvis Presley (#40 to #22) Biggest Dropper (tie): "Hold Your Head Up" - Argent (#12 to #28) "Goodbye To Love" - The Carpenters (#14 to #30) Original extras: None Premiere optional extras: Hour #1: "If I Could Reach You" - 5th Dimension (#56) Hour #2: "Don't Ever Be Lonely (A Poor Little Fool Like Me)" - Cornelius Brothers & Sister Rose (#49) Hour #3: "Good Time Charlie's Got The Blues" - Danny O'Keefe (#51) The "B" show this week is from 9/11/1976. Here is my repost from 2014: Here come this weekend's shows "AT40: The '70s" this week presents 9/11/1976 Two songs debuted this week: "Doctor Tarr and Professor Feather" - Alan Parsons Project (#39) "Superstar" - Paul Davis (#40) Two songs fell out of the Top 40 this week: "Young Hearts Run Free" - Candi Staton (#33) "Afternoon Delight" - Starland Vocal Band (#36) Biggest Mover: "That'll Be The Day" - Linda Ronstadt (#38 to #25) Biggest Dropper: "Get Closer" - Seals & Crofts (#14 to #32) Original extras: "(I Know) I'm Losing You" - The Temptations This song will be played as one of the optional extras. Premiere optional extras: Hour #1: "Nadia's Theme (The Young & The Restless)" - Barry DeVorzon & Perry Botkin, Jr. (#67) Hour #2: "(I Know) I'm Losing You" - The Temptations (original AT40 extra) Hour #3: "I Only Want To Be With You" - Bay City Rollers (#54) I'll get to the two '80s songs soon.

Now to preview the two '80s shows. The "A" show this week is from 9/19/1981. Here is an edited repost: Four songs debuted this week: "Hard To Say" - Dan Fogelberg (#29) "When She Was My Girl" - The Four Tops (#37) "Just Once" - Quincy Jones featuring James Ingram (#38) "Straight From The Heart" - The Allman Brothers Band (#39) Four songs fell out of the Top 40 this week: "Feels So Right" - Alabama (#20) "That Old Song" - Ray Parker Jr. and Raydio (#21) "Love On A Two-Way Street" - Stacy Lattisaw (#26) "I Don't Need You" - Kenny Rogers (#31) Biggest Mover (tie): "Start Me Up" - The Rolling Stones (#19 to #11) "The Night Owls" - The Little River Band (#28 to #20) Biggest Dropper: "Fire And Ice" - Pat Benatar (#17 to #30) Original extras: "Ferry Cross The Mersey" - Gerry & The Pacemakers Long Distance Dedications: "Time In A Bottle" - Jim Croce "Lady" - Kenny Rogers Archive extras: "Judy In Disguise (with Glasses)" - John Fred & His Playboy Band "Green Tambourine" - The Lemon Pipers "Love Is Blue" - Paul Mauriat All three extras are included this week. Premiere opional extras: Hour #1: "Alien" - Atlanta Rhythm Section (#55) Hour #2: "Say Goodbye To Hollywood" - Billy Joel (#56) Hour #3: "Our Lips Are Sealed" - The Go-Go's (#58) Hour #4: "At This Moment" - Billy Vera & The Beaters (#90; debuted) Of Note: Premiere has replaced the Theme from "Hill Street Blues" (which was the Hour #1 op extra in previous airings) with "Alien". At least Premiere is changing extras for an "A"/featured show as opposed to... This weekend's "B" show which is from 9/14/1985 (yes, the "Dead Dog" show). Here again is an edited repost: Four songs debuted this week: "Part-Time Lover" - Stevie Wonder (#31) "Lovin' Every Minute Of It" - Loverboy (#33) "The Way You Do The Things You Do/My Girl" - Daryl Hall & John Oates (#35) "I'm Goin' Down" - Bruce Springsteen (#36) Four songs fell off this week: "Everytime You Go Away" - Paul Young (#29) "Who's Holding Donna Now" - DeBarge (#31) "You Spin Me Round (Like A Record)" - Dead Or Alive (#35) "I Wonder If I Take You Home" - Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam with Full Force (#39) Biggest Mover: "Dancing In The Street" - Mick Jagger & David Bowie (#33 to #25) Biggest Dropper (tie): "Mystery Lady" - Billy Ocean (#27 to #38) "If You Love Somebody Set Them Free" - Sting (#28 to #39) Original extras: None Long Distance Dedications: "This One's For You" - Barry Manilow "Shannon" - Henry Gross (we knew what happened here ;)) "Theme From 'Mahogany' (Do You Know Where You're Going To)" - Diana Ross Premiere optional extras: Hour #1: "You Belong To The City" - Glenn Frey (#57; debuted) Hour #2: "Running Up That Hill" - Kate Bush (#90) Hour #3: "We Built This City" - Starship (#51) Hour #4: "Never" - Heart (#70; debuted) Of note: Premiere has replaced Don Henley's "Sunset Grill" (the Hour #2 op extra in its' 2010 and 2016 airings but we did hear it already this year with 8/31/1985) with "Running Up That Hill". Usually Premiere changes the op extras for "B" show if somebody dies but obviously Kate Bush is still very much alive. Premiere is clearly capitalizing on the song's sudden "Stranger Things" resurgence on the regular AT40 which I kinda expected they would eventually do BUT I HATE THE FACT THAT THEY'RE DOING THIS FOR A "B" SHOW THAT FEW AFFILIATES AIR AND EVEN FEWER AIR WITH ALL OPTIONAL EXTRAS INTACT!!!!! I SWEAR THIS MAKES ME WANNA SWEAR LIKE CASEY DID THE DAY HE WAS RECORDING THIS SHOW!!!!! November can't come soon enough for me.

People talk about the "Snuggles" LDD (a dog's death hurts far more than a human's) with Shannon but the real controversy this week is: Did Casey play the edited version of "Money for Nothing" or did Premiere replace that? Wikipedia said "In a late 1985 interview in Rolling Stone magazine, Knopfler expressed mixed feelings on the controversy" Late 1985 is after this week's show. Was the edited version made into a single or was it only for radio stations?

By the way, The very next BB Hot 100 Chart on 9/23/72 would be the only time that the entire Top 40 was either performed by Male singers or Music Groups that had a man sing lead on the tune with the instrumentals "Rock And Roll Part 2" by Gary Glitter and "Popcorn" by Hot Butter being the lone exceptions.

I SWEAR THIS MAKES ME WANNA SWEAR LIKE CASEY DID THE DAY HE WAS RECORDING THIS SHOW!!!!! November can't come soon enough for me. I don't understand all the anger. Premiere probably had their 2022 schedule completed at the end of last year. If they had made 9/14/85 the "A" show, then it would have been just 3 weeks after the last 1985 "A" show was played ("Running Up That Hill" wasn't on the Hot 100 then and wouldn't have been the best choice for an optional). 1981 was last an "A" show 7 weeks ago, so if they passed it up this time, it could be another 10 weeks or so before it's played again. So working with the schedule they already had, I think they made the right choice. BTW, I did hear the optional this weekend that Larry introduced. He said it was in the 4th season of "Stranger Things" and returned to the Hot 100. In the back-announce, he said it peaked at #30 in 1985 and #3 in 37 more years. I think they played the album version. It was about 4 1/2 minutes long.

In fairness, assuming Premiere planned 9/14/1985 as a "B" show when the year began, I'm sure they didn't think about needing to change the extras until "Stranger Things" happened for them. I still don't think they should change op extras for a "B" show unless it's death-related (Hi Drummer for Yes whose name escapes me and I could care less about.) I can't wait for the next '70s/'80s singleton weekend but I'm afraid that won't happen before Premiere makes the holiday Casey offerings available (i.e. November).

BTW as far as "Running Up That Hill" is concerned, I'm glad that Premiere did play the longer version for Casey's AT40. Now if only Seacrest can follow suit. Run Joey Run - David Geddes #5 on 9/27/1975
The first time I heard this song was on an episode of Glee Season 1, Episode 17 - "Bad Reputation" The cast performs the song during a dramatization of the song. I didn't know it was a real song, I thought it was something written for Glee. Sounds too corny to be a commercial pop song.

Today during the 80s and 70s show on WPNC, Bill Benjamin announced that they will be moving to Sunday at noon for the 80s countdown and Saturday at noon for the 70s countdown. He said rest assured that if the 70s countdown is a 3 hour countdown or if it is a 4 hour countdown it will be played in its entirety as it originally aired. He said that because earlier today I used the contact form on the website and asked if they will be playing the full 1979 show. At 5:30 I get a voicemail from Bill Benjamin stating that they play the full 4 hours for the 70s show and that they will be moving to Saturdays at noon. How's that for service?
WPAC 987 plays the 70s B show but their server really blows up my browser. After an hour it is at 2200 Meg for firefox and then it flatlines. It tested it on Chrome and it crashed the computer.

My local station plays Rick Dees & Casey back-to-back every Sunday afternoon/evening. For the past two weeks, Rick has been 1986 and 1987 as well. If they go 1984 today, then I'll suspect shenanigans for sure. (Of course this problem will self correct once Casey dips back to the early 80s before Rick started).

Don't think it will be, as 1984 is the only Casey option and I don't think Rick's 1983-84 shows are replayed, because he doesn't have the rights to rebroadcast the Cashbox chart data which the WT40 used then. (Rick switched to Radio & Records at the start of 1985.)

October 1974 was a real drought for good music if Cheech & Chong's Earache My Eye featuring Alice Bowie made the top 10. That's the stupidest I've heard. It is worse than Bob & Doug McKenzie. The only thing that redeems this week is the #1 song.

This weekend, we have one '80s show and two '70s shows which means once again the weekend preview will be a two-parter. Starting with the one '80s show first. Now to finish off this weekend's preview with the two '70s shows. The "A" show for this weekend is from 10/27/1973. Here is my repost: Four songs debuted this week: "Ecstasy" - The Ohio Players (#35) "Nutbush City Limits" - Ike & Tina Turner (#36) "Cheaper To Keep Her" - Johnnie Taylor (#38) "The Most Beautiful Girl" - Charlie Rich (#40) Four songs fell off the Top 40 this week: "Say, Has Anybody Seen My Sweet Gypsy Rose" - Tony Orlando & Dawn (#35) "Let Me In" - The Osmonds (#36) "Brother Louie" - Stories (#38) "Touch Me In The Morning" - Diana Ross (#40) Biggest Mover: "Photograph" - Ringo Starr (#29 to #18) Biggest Dropper (tie): "China Grove" - The Doobie Brothers (#18 to #31) "Delta Dawn" - Helen Reddy (#24 to #37) Original extras: None Premiere optional extras: "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" - Elton John (#62; highest debut) "Hello It's Me" - Todd Rundgren (#56) "The Joker" - The Steve Miller Band (#72) The "B" show for this weekend is from 10/21/1978. Here is an edited repost (and another rant): Five songs debuted this week: "Time Passages" - Al Stewart (#34) "Prisoner Of Your Love" - Player (#35) "Themes From 'The Wizard Of Oz'" - Meco (#37) "Blue Collar Man (Long Nights)" - Styx (#38) "Don't Want To Live Without It" - deleted Cruise (#40) Five songs fell off this week: "5-7-0-5" - City Boy (#27) "An Everlasting Love" - Andy Gibb (#28) "Oh! Darling" - Robin Gibb (#34) "Come Together" - Aerosmith (#35) "Heartbreaker" - Dolly Parton (#40) Biggest Mover: "Sharing The Night Together" - Dr. Hook (#37 to #27) Biggest Dropper: "Hollywood Nights" - Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band (#12 to #29) Original extras: "Stayin' Alive" - Bee Gees "Superstition" - Stevie Wonder "This Will Be" - Natalie Cole Long Distance Dedications: "Hey Deanie" - Shaun Cassidy "Colour My World" - Chicago Archive extras: "ABC" - Jackson Five "American Woman" - The Guess Who "Everything Is Beautiful" - Ray Stevens Premiere optional extras: Hour #1: "Theme From 'Halloween'" - John Carpenter (NR) Hour #2: "Instant Replay" - Dan Hartman (#82) Hour #3: "How You Gonna See Me Now" - Alice Cooper (#75; highest debut) Hour #4: "New York Groove" - Ace Frehley (#81) Of note: Premiere has dropped Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers' "Breakdown" from it's previous 2017 airing (Tom Petty had just died then) with "Instant Replay" moving from Hour #1 to Hour #2 to replace it and adding the "Halloween" theme song to Hour #1. Once again, I really hate it when Premiere changes the optional extras for a "B" show when it's not death-related (although I did point out the Tom Petty extra was because he died) and is it their M.O. to make sure that every October 1978 show includes the "Halloween" theme?!?!? It was already previously an op extra for it's 10/14/1978 and 10/28/1978 airings (and like this week's 10/21 show, it was also a "B" show when it aired last year). The Casey Christmas specials can't come soon enough.

Premiere optional extras: Hour #1: "Theme From 'Halloween'" - John Carpenter (NR) Hour #2: "Instant Replay" - Dan Hartman (#82) Hour #3: "How You Gonna See Me Now" - Alice Cooper (#75; highest debut) Hour #4: "New York Groove" - Ace Frehley (#81) Of note: Premiere has dropped Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers' "Breakdown" from it's previous 2017 airing (Tom Petty had just died then) with "Instant Replay" moving from Hour #1 to Hour #2 to replace it and adding the "Halloween" theme song to Hour #1. And they didn't go all-out regarding the holiday by finding ways to slip something like "Frankenstein" or "Monster Mash" in (both would have had some relevance to the 1973 show as they were on the chart that year.)

10/27/1973 - BW Stevenson's singing of My Maria sounds alot like Ronnie Dunn's version. Not much updating there. Helen Reddy had Delta Dawn, but Tanya Tucker made it famous on the country charts. Carpenters had Top of the World which was a country hit by Lynn Anderson
Charlie Rich had The Most Beautiful Girl #40 pop, #21 country and Conway Twitty had You've Never Been This far #39 pop, #7 country and dropping and Marie Osmond had "Paper Roses" #7 pop, #6 country Olivia's Let me be there was climbing the country chart, 10 weeks on at this time, but it won't debut on the pop chart until 11/17. Dawn with Tony Orlando had #47 pop "Say has anybody seen my Sweet Gypsy Rose" while Terry Stafford had the same song on country #35. Robert Flack had a song called Jesse. It's rare to find a man's name in a song. Carly Simon also had a song called Jessie and Rick Springfield had Jessie's Girl. I wonder what is the man's name that is most used in song titles. There is "Abraham, Martin & John, "Big Bad John" and "Johnny Angel" and Chuck Berry's - Johnny B Good and Men at Works - Be Good Johnny so John has 5.
A question was posed: Was there ever a #1 record of the year by a female. Yes, 1977 Debby Boone, 1981 Kim Carnes, 1982 Olivia Newton John and 1993 Whitney Houston

10/21/1978
#37 Meco - Themes from Wizard of Oz? Never heard that one. What brought that around at that time?
#18 "Who are you" by The Who. The first of 4 Who songs used for CSI theme songs.
This was the time of Grease. Summer Nights, specific to the movie, #10 gold; Hopelessly Devoted to you #19 gold. John Travolta's Greased Lightnin' #49, Frankie Valli's Grease at #99 gold.
Not as many country songs as 1973 because more disco
Crystal Gayle "Talking in Your Sleep" not the same song as the Romantic 1984
Country crossovers. On the country chart #35 Buck Owens had "Nights are forever without You". That is the same song that Seals and Croft did, as I just listened on Youtube. Not as good. at #56 Beverly Hackel had "Bluer than Blue" This is the same song Michael Johnson had. at #61 Linda Ronstadt "Back in the USA" #16 pop at #67 Freddy Fender "I'm Leaving it all up to you" Marie Osmond did that one. at #72 Dr Hook "Sharing the Night Together". #27 pop a #94 Eric Clapton's "Promises" #78 pop

10/22/1983 I'm starting my senior year in high school and listening to AT40 on Sundays. This is a time where everything in the top 40 was good. Alot of British and European techno pop. MTV and music videos. How did Quiet Riot get past the censors with "Cum on feel the noize"? But it wasn't their song. Slade did that in 1973. Casey said Sheen Easton likes frogs and wanted to sing with Kermit and finally did Sheena Easton & Kermit The Frog - Just The Way You Are (Bob Hope's 80th Birthday Special '83) www.youtube.com/watch?v=gPysg4H7T5MI think that Sheena Easton's version of "I will always love you" is better than Whitney's. It should have been released. Bob Seger's Old Time Rock and Roll was rereleased and is at 48 because of the movie Risky Business and at #77 is the Romantics Talking in your Sleep which is not the same as Crystal Gayle song from 1978. David Bowie had Modern Love at #18. in 1969 David Bowie had Ground Control to Major Tom from the song Space Oddity. At #52 Peter Schilling had the follow up "Major Tom (Coming home)". He was trapped in space for 14 years.
