As happened in the past when the 70s A show was 1979, WPAC & WPNC went with 1979 instead of their usual B show.
On Saturday WQMV played 5/31/1975 B show but their signal dropped many times throughout the show. Not buffering but it lost data.
Now WVWP just started 5/31/1975.

The next two 1980s shows are June 13, 1981 and June 14, 1980. The former will give me a badly-needed addition for June 1981, a month from which I’ve only heard one countdown so far, and the latter will get me one away from completing June 1980.

Since both aforementioned shows are from the early 1980s, they will be paired with “B” shows from later in the decade. The two “B” shows I hope to hear are June 16, 1984 and June 20, 1987. I’m one away from completing June 1984 and June 1987, and those two shows are the ones I’m missing from each.

It helps that we haven’t heard a show from 1984 or 1987 in more than a month now. The last 1984 show was May 5, 1984. The last 1987 show was April 11, 1987.

Going forward through the rest of the summer, these are the shows that’d help me out the most by week…


June 29 weekend: June 26, 1982 / June 29, 1985

I would love to hear those more often & though it might never happen, I'd love to hear the 90s Casey's Top 40 shows too, especially since the Rick Dees WT40 airs the same shows year after year now.

This week there were quite a few songs I never heard before.
1972 - Jimmy Osmond Long-haird Lover from Liverpool
Michael Jackson was at #38 with "I wanna be where you are" & the Jackson 5 was at #21 with "Little Bitty Pretty One"
Amazing Grace - Royal Scots Dragoon Guard was in the top 20. Reminds me of late 1959 when the Battle hymm Republic by Mormon Tabernacle choir was in the top 20 for quite a while.
Troglodyte is quite a non politically correct song for today.

Roberta Flack's - First time Ever. I love that string bass or cello or whatever is producing that low sound.
Sylvia's Mother by Dr Hook. Operator interrupted to deposit 40 more cents. People today wouldn't understand that.

1981 #39 "I can take care of myself" Billy & the Beaters. I've never heard that before. I'm assuming that is Billy Vera & the Beaters of "At this moment" fame. Both songs end with the audience applause.
1981 was such a great year as there was such variety.
#30 "Still Right here in my heart" Pure Prairie League. Now that I know that it is Vince Gill singing that, listening to that will never be the same.

#40 Music Time by STYX. I've never heard that one.
#29 "Modern Day Delilah" by Van Stephenson. When Casey said he was from Nashville, I thought that can't be. That name was familiar. He was 1/3rd of the country group Blackhawk. The one that died.

In the 6/18/1988 show Casey said that Rick Nielsen of Cheap Trick looks like Huntz Hall from the Bowery Boys. Where did Casey get that? Bowery Boys are not that well known.

Speaking of Rick Nielsen and throwing things, in the guest hosted 6/9/79 show (played a couple of weeks ago by Sirius XM) Bruce Philip Miller told of Rick throwing a guitar out to an evidently lucky fan.

In the same show BPM told a story of ELO’s Bev Bevan tossing out his drumsticks to a fan who got a gash on his face from them, but didn’t mind at all.

It depends on your age, and probably where you grew up. Independent TV stations in big cities such as New York and Chicago recycled those Bowery Boys (previously called East Side Kids and Dead End Kids) films nearly endlessly on weekends through the 1960s and into the '70s.

I admit to thinking there was a Huntz Hall connection as well when I first saw Rick and his mates. I don't believe anyone else I knew agreed.

Casey was headed to Hawaii to do 5-0 and needed extra time off so three shows were recorded at once. 6/22/74 and the top 40 singles acts of the 70s (airing 7/6). That left 6/29 of which the Billboard chart wasn't ready yet. So Casey and the staff made up their own Top 40.

WTOJs Ken Martin has recreated this show using the actual top 40 and it will air Sunday 6/30 at 9am EDT.

Mine are Strawberry Letter 23 - Brothers Johnson I like the video and guitar and bass though I can't understand what he is saying.

As an FYI, this countdown will air only on WTOJ while other affiliates will air the incorrect countdown so the WTOJ broadcast will be something worth recording.

It is one of two original Casey-hosted AT40 shows in which an incomplete Billboard chart ran (6/9/1973 when the Hot 100 was revamped was another). For this show, the AT40 staff tried to guess what Billboard's Top 40 would look like in advance of the actual chart as Casey Kasem was about to depart for a few weeks to tape a guest appearance on "Hawaii Five-O". In the end, they got three out of 40 (the top two plus #34) correct.

Often WPNC usually goes with the later year in "A/B" show designations but this past weekend they actually went with 1975 instead of 1976.
