This weekend for a change we have only one '70s show and one '80s show so just one post for the weekend preview.
"AT40: The '70s" this week presents 3/20/1976. Here is an edited repost:
"Looking For Space" - John Denver (#38)
"You'll Lose A Good Thing" - Freddy Fender (#39)
"He's A Friend" - Eddie Kendricks (#40)
Three songs fell off this week:
"You Sexy Thing" - Hot Chocolate (#17)
"Take It Like A Man" - Bachman-Turner Overdrive (#33)
"Hold Back The Night" - The Trammps (#35)
Biggest Mover: "Show Me The Way" - Peter Frampton (#37 to #25)
Biggest Dropper: "50 Ways To Leave Your Lover" - Paul Simon (#11 to #18)
Original extras:
"Diamond Girl" - Seals & Crofts
Back in 2017, this song stayed in the show. This time it will be played as an optional extra
Premiere optional extras:
Hour #1: "Shout It Out Loud" - KISS (#81; debuted)
Hour #2: "Diamond Girl" - Seals & Crofts (original AT40 extra)
Hour #3: "Strange Magic" - Electric Light Orchestra (#55)
"AT40: The '80s" this week presents 3/19/1983. Here is another edited repost:
"Beat It" - Michael Jackson (#24)
"She Blinded Me With Science" - Thomas Dolby (#36)
"Little Red Corvette" - Prince (#37)
"Winds Of Change" - Jefferson Starship (#38)
"So Close" - Diana Ross (#40)
Five songs fell off the Top 40 this week:
"Goody Two Shoes" - Adam Ant (#28)
"The Woman In Me" - Donna Summer (#33)
"I'm Alive" - Neil Diamond (#35)
"You Can't Hurry Love" - Phil Collins (#37)
"Don't Tell Me You Love Me" - Night Ranger (#40)
Biggest Mover: "Jeopardy" - The Greg Kihn Band (#27 to #16)
Biggest Dropper: "Baby, Come To Me" - Patti Austin with James Ingram (#9 to #21)
Original extras:
None
Long Distance Dedications:
"You Decorated My Life" - Kenny Rogers
"Annie's Song" - John Denver
Premiere Optional extras:
Hour #1: "Solitaire" - Laura Branigan (#65; highest debut)
Hour #2: "Should I Stay Or Should I Go" - The Clash (#52)
Hour #3: "Photograph" - Def Leppard (#77)
Hour #4: "Always Something There To Remind Me" - The Naked Eyes (#79)
Of note: "Solitaire" replaces Al Jarreau's "Mornin'" as the Hour #1 op extra (though "Mornin'" was in the Hot 100 that week, it was played because Jarreau had recently died at the time).
Speaking of deaths, none of the op extras appeared to have changed this week (I can certainly vouch for 1988 as WPNC aired all except the first one; I heard the first extra on WFRO) but in the case of 1976 Premiere could still change one of the extras to honor Eric Carmen (despite him being already represented in the countdown with "All By Myself"). Thank goodness this is a singleton weekend.
