01 01 Paul McCartney - Coming Up (1)NOTES:
- Heeeeeeeeere we go again...there are two shows in the 1980s hosted by Casey that follow a July 4 special where only the special was produced for that week. Last week had one - now, here's the other. (There's only one other such show in the 80s, 7-11-81, but that was hosted by Charlie Van Dyke.)
- Casey does refer to last week's Book of Records show briefly, though the Top 3 were in fact the same three in order on both 6-28 and 7-5.
- Incidentally, this is the third airing for this show, which aired previously in both 2007 and 2008 (the latter probably as a straight repeat airing). What's oddly interesting is that not only are NONE of the extras from before repeated here, but unlike many of the 2007/2008 shows, all four of those extras - "Upside Down", "Fame", "You're the Only Woman", and "Cocaine" - were still viable for this one (as opposed to being one of this week's droppers or even a song that hadn't quite debuted on the Hot 100 yet).
- Nice to see Premiere taking the hint on deleted Archives, though in the case of this one perhaps the real case to be made was simply from the song in question - "Teen Angel" - having been featured in stories on 3-24-84 and 12-22-79, both of which they've aired since 2008.
- Casey calls "Into the Night" the 4th of the 6 debuts this week. OOPS!
- From the ":O" files: Following the conclusion of "Who Shot J.R.?", Larry Morgan promptly gave the answer away!
- Story behind "Tom Dooley" as an Extra: Casey told the story of the song - supposedly based on true events, a man named Tom Dooley was hanged for murdering the woman he loved out of jealousy because she left him for another man. As for its "true" nature, the show's staff tried to verify it - and they found an incident in North Carolina where a man named Thomas Doola had murdered a woman that he loved after she gave him a "social disease" (a euphemism for a STD?).
- Instead of the normal hour opening theme, the show's closing theme was what played in the background leading into the final hour.
- "I'll Take You There" was played as an unannounced extra - no teaser, unlike with "Tom Dooley".
- #1 on the Country chart: "You Win Again" by Charley Pride
- #1 on the Soul chart: "Take Your Time"
- #1 on the Album chart: Glass Houses by Billy Joel
