When was the last time a song fell from #1 to outside the top 3 in a single week? It took a lot of digging, but I did come up with some interesting facts. Kelly's fall to #4 is the 2nd biggest fall from #1 in Hot AC history. The record fall from #1 is falling from #1 to #5 in a single week. It's a tie between two songs: "I'm the Only One" - Melissa Etheridge, fell to #5 the week of 1/27/95 "As I Lay Me Down" - Sophie B. Hawkins fell to #5 the week of 12/22/95. Thus Kelly's fall is the biggest fall from #1 in a little over 16 years!

It's a little different on Rick's "dartboard" Hot AC chart as these bigger drops from #1 happen quite frequently there (especially last July), including this week. Here's a list of #1 to outside the top 3 droppers over the past year for comparisons sake: "Perfect" by Pink fell to #4 the week of 4/9/11. "E.T." by Katy Perry fell to #7 the week of 7/2/11. "Never Gonna Leave This Bed" by Maroon5 fell to #7 the week of 7/23/11 (after Rick's two week summer break). "The Lazy Song" by Bruno Mars fell to #4 the week of 7/30/11. "Brighter Than The Sun" by Colbie Caillat fell to #5 this week (1/28/12). Also, approximately a third of the remaining #1 songs fell to #3 while the rest dropped to #2. So obviously Rick's chart is a bit more "old school" than the official Mediabase charts. That's amazing that these bigger drops have only occurred three times on the Mediabase chart in 16 years! I guess that's what happens when charts are comprised of actual airplay data instead of using submitted station playlists.
