It's rare that an AC #1 misses the Hot 100, usually recently cause it's an older pop hit. Since radio only tracks began in 1998, here are the AC #1 hits that missed the Hot 100. Note that most are Christmas songs.
2000:
Huey Lewis & Gwyneth Paltrow - Crusin'
The song was #1 for 1 week in 2000 from the movie "Duets." However when it came to the Hot 100, the song only got to #9 Bubbling Under.
2002:
Jim Brickman f/Rebecca Lynn Howard - Simple Things
Despite Jim's huge AC success, he has never made the Hot 100. This #1 from January 2002 is no exception.
Josh Groban - To Where You Are
Josh's breakthrough hit. Despite a 2-week stay at #1 on AC and being used in the TV Series "Ally McBeal" the song only reached #16 Bubbling Under. Hw would make his Hot 100 debut in 2004 when "You Raise Me Up" peaked at #73.
Hall & Oates - Do It For Love
The song that ended Josh's reign also failed to make the Hot 100. Despite their previous success, this 2-week #1 AC hit only reached #14 on the Bubbling Under. They were luckier in 2007 when "I'll Be Around" peaked at #97, however that only reached #6 on AC. To date, this is the last non-Christmas song to miss the Hot 100.
Josh Groban - Oh Holy Night
Josh made the feature a 2nd time, but Christmas songs are easier to miss the Hot 100. It was #1 on AC for 2 weeks.
