It seemed like the argument was that Christina is not as convincing as some other artists when she's singing such sexually aggressive lyrics, not that she can't sing uptempo music.

I hate that people think that singers with big voices should only sing ballads and slow song. GET. THE. f**k. OUT. People think that? Yes. I know the poster explicitly said that he/she didn't, but it reminded me of how that's the exact sentiment that comes up a lot for those artists. It's not always stated explicitly, but implied with comments like "she's wasting her voice on uptempos" and other shit like that. In short, yes there are people who feel that way. |

People are definitely less critical of lyrics in the general public than they are here. If people were this critical about lyrics everywhere most songs that are hits right now wouldn't be ha ha. I am not too worried about it being too sexual since fuck won't be the promoted version and the lyrics are fairly benign other than that one word.

I stopped reading after that. Were you born after the "Stripped" era? Did you listen to "Dirrty" & "Get Mine, Get Yours"? HELL she was even asking her lover to "rub her the right way" on Genie In A Bottle.... Christina commercially brought back sex to the music scene (after Madonna). The whole controversy thing. Your argument is 100% invalid. Anyway, I really hope this song turns out to be a smash cuz it deserves to be one. It's got everything that a "radio hit" needs. yeah, cuz the whole dirrty era was super effective. Lets just imagine the stripped era without ``beautiful``, im pretty sure that things would have been totally different. Songs like Dirrty did nothing for her, she had a lot of controversy because of the video but thats it. The stripped era is memorable because of songs like Beautiful, Walk away, and to me, something that shes really good at, Female anthems. Fighter, Cant hold us down are her thing. She can sell them, shes convincing and real singing them. A song about how she wants to f**k his body? sorry, but no. The beat is sort of good, but the lyrics are dreadful, and doesnt matter that people doesnt pay attention to lyrics, just because of it a song doesnt need decent ones? And even if this song goes top 10, or #1, we all know that its not the kind of music that will make people buy her album. I hope that the label is at least a little smarter with the second single. Are you serious? The song went to #1 everywhere in the world except for the US! It's as big as "Beautiful" in the UK (for example) ... and it flopped in the US because of how sexual it was .. It flopped because of how effective it was, not because of how crappy it was. The CHAPS were basically everywhere... Everyone was talking about it. Cut the crap. |

At times I think that people are less accepting of certain artists becoming sexual with their image and music. A sexual song coming from Rihanna, Nicki, and Britney would be better received than one by Christina. It also has to do with the social and sexual mores of the U.S. People are still talking about how evil Janet Jackson's right breast is yet Flo Rida can go to number one with a song about oral sex. As Madonna once asked rhetorically "Would it sound better if I were a man?" in the spoken section of "Human Nature", it seems sexual Rap, R&B, and to a lesser extent Pop songs by a male artist tend to be better received. Society portrays men as virile casanovas and women as hedonistic, wanton spawns of satan for wanting to be in control of their sexual desires or showing aggressive sexuality. When Christina dresses sexy, people call her a slut, a ho, a whore, but when Usher takes off everything except his underwear on stage, people say he's just doing what guys do. Slut-shaming is a very ugly thing. |

But that's kind of the point. People buy carnal sexuality when it comes from Rihanna. They don't when it comes from Christina. That has more to do with the public's general perception of the two women and their level of sex appeal than sexism.
People are finding the sexualized Justin Bieber hard to swallow too, while someone like Trey Songz can pull off a sexualized image much more effortlessly.

I've listened to this song about three times and that was days ago and the chorus just popped right into my head this morning. Ready to buy it on iTunes tbqh. This song's run will be quite interesting.
I listened to the HQ of the final "demo" version yesterday and it all just clicked. I was already enjoying the LQ version, but hearing the HQ brought it to a new level. I'd like to see it be a hit, but as already mentioned, the public might not welcome something like this from Christina at first.

^Where has it been confirmed that she's performing this next Monday? Someone else earlier in the thread said the 18th, which is the Tuesday show.
I'm sure it's entirely possible and most likely going to happen, but I still haven't seen any real confirmation of that.
