Both Tim and LBT have had much stronger chart runs than Taylor, and while Carrie and Hunter have slowed down of late, I think they (along with Blake) will start moving up the chart quickly again now that the logjam is starting to clear a bit. "Begin Again" hasn't had a weak chart run by any means...but it hasn't been a quick one either. It's been steady and I really feel like Big Machine has been very diligent. They could've let this one go when it stalled out just inside the top 15 but they were patient and kept with it, even as quite a few others moved ahead. So Taylor kinda slipped through the cracks...4 weeks at #10, 3 weeks at #8, now she should inch up to #7. Here's her Billboard chart run so far:
37-29-23-21-19-17-16-15-14-14-14-12-10-10-10-10-08-08-08
And LBT's:
47-41-32-30-26-24-22-21-20-19-17-16-16-15-13-12-10-09-06
And Tim's:
.......................44-33-29-25-21-18-15-15-12-12-09-07-06-05
Just kinda puts it into perspective. Even though this song is quite 'country', I really feel like the label has had to work harder than normal (ie, harder than they've had to in the past with Taylor's other songs) to get country radio to keep increasing its airplay; radio just seems a bit more hesitant this era, and it's hard to blame them given the musical direction she's gone with on Red (and I don't mean that I don't like the album, because I do). But you see it in a lot of places, the outcry of the "that ain't country!" belief, so it kinda puts Taylor in an 'interesting' situation as she straddles the boundary between different genres.
I don't think her chances of #1 are very high (less than 5%, if you ask me) and even top 5 isn't a lock but I do think she can get there and that's a solid peak. I'm thinking only 1 week at #1 for TBP/Brad (TBP getting BB, Brad on MB), and then maybe 2 weeks for Tim, before LBT takes over. I don't foresee Taylor still being around that long. Still, Big Machine has done a good job promoting this; I really feel like they've been very diligent because they could've let it go before the holidays but it's performed almost like a 'sleeper' type of hit lately and it could pay off with a top 5 peak yet.

Somehow Taylor has passed LBT on this mornings update despite trailing LBT by over a 100 spins and almost a million in aud. Odd how MB points system works.

I think it had something to do with the fact that BA saw a HUGE audience gain while LBT's was a little more average. But yes, gotta love the points system.

I have to tell you, I can't go that far. I think it's a Zodiac thing. And, unless we're in Libra, total number of words in the title divided by the alphabetical position of the first letter in the song's title. Your idea is too complicated.

Yeah, it certainly looks like the big push is on for Taylor. She passes LBT on Mediabase to get up to #6...however, I think she'll stay just behind LBT on Billboard. So, she'll likely finish the week at #6 on Mediabase but #7 on Billboard.
But like I said last night, she'll need one more week of gains to get to the top 5. If she's still gaining a week from now, it won't matter whether she's ahead of LBT or not. They should both move ahead of the plunging Gary and Jason and into the top 5.
Taylor's sudden gains the last 2 days (especially today) admittedly caught me by surprise a bit. She's suddenly gone from trailing LBT by quite a bit, to closing on them a bunch (Billboard terms here). But despite the big gains, I still think LBT is much more likely to still be gaining a few weeks from now and has the best chance to follow Tim at #1. Taylor had really been treading water the last few weeks so my guess is that this push is to get her to the top 5...I can't see her suddenly jumping into the race for #1 in a couple weeks but I suppose it's not completely impossible. Just highly unlikely, imo.

This just needs to peak already so "All Too Well" can be released and go #1.

I haven't listened to "All Too Well" (or much of anything on the album), but I have a hard time believing it will be better than this. This is my favorite Taylor song ever, so I hope they keep pushing it as high as it can go. I can wait another month. They probably set the adds date for "22" very late so that they can push that and the new country single as the same time, or so I'd imagine (I don't know how pop radio will respond to just the single being announced with an adds date faraway). Keeping them on the same schedule will allow "Red" to be released to both at the same time down the road.

My only issue with ATW is that it gets a little too bombastic for me in the bridge, but it's only a minor complaint. Otherwise, I agree that it's one of her best songs. Top notch, detailed songwriting. It's crazy how well I can relate to the song. Taylor has such a gift for writing lyrics that connect with people.
I'd love for it to be the next single, even if they have to edit it down a bit. It's 5:29 in length, but I think a radio edit is doable.

^ As long as they don't edit it the way Dial Global does with "Back to December". Right after the first chorus ("And I go back to December all the time…") they jump over most of the second verse, all the way to "…And then the cold came, the dark days when fear crept into my mind…"

If you trim the intro music in half, cut the bridge music down. and take out some of the last verse where she is saying "wind in my hair/you were there/you remember it all" and just skip to "it was rare, I was there, I remember it all too well," the song is around 4:30 which is about 9 seconds longer than 'Sparks Fly' which was a #1 hit. And that would keep the song's integrity and not delete anything too necessary.

Wow were you right. That is also an amazing song. WHY DO I NOT HAVE THIS ALBUM YET! I haven't even minded either of the pop songs thus far (though neither belongs on country obviously). I need to get this in the next couple weeks. I haven't disliked any of the 7 songs I have heard. Perhaps I was scared away by the negative reviews of this being too pop-heavy, but I'd imagine it would still be worth it. Still would like this current song to be pushed a bit more though because I am nowhere near tired of it.

I'm not a big fan of "All Too Well" (mostly because I don't like Taylor's vocals on that one), but I love "I Almost Do" and would love for that to become a single at some point.

"I Almost Do" would be the easier choice since no edit would be necessary (or minor edits if anything). It's a great song and I'd be content with it as a single, but I'd prefer "All Too Well" personally. I can't imagine they'd release both of them as singles. This is how I could see them playing it: 01. Begin Again 02. Stay Stay Stay or Come Back... Be Here 03. Red 04. All Too Well or I Almost Do

It's a shame I Almost Do and All Too Well probably won't both be singles. I love both and would be happiest if they'd be able to release the two of them. I'd be really glad to see ATW next though.

I have three songs in mind as potential (country only) singles for this era: "Treacherous", "All Too Well", and the title track. I don't really care what order they come in as I can see them being decent hits regardless of when they get released. I personally would've sent out the first of the trio either last week or this week (while going for adds near the end of the month) or the title track to all formats (not a fan of "22" tbqhwy), but I am also perfectly fine with ATW being next; I hope they send it out soon, though.

It would make no sense at all to wait on another solo single from her just because that's out; the Red era is just getting started.

I think it makes sense for Big Machine to focus on pushing "22" to Pop and then pushing "Highway don't care" to Country at the same time. Then after HDC peaks they can release "Red" as a follow up to both singles on both formats. That should fill up most of the rest of 2013 given each single has a climb rate of 20 weeks each on Country. Maybe they could slide in ATW, SSS, or something else at Country and SOG or HG to Pop before the year ends.

"Power Up Now" ad from tonight's Country Aircheck Weekly. I feel like this will be the final push week for "Begin Again", to get it into the top 5, and it will start falling about a week from now.

Shouldn't it easily reach top 5 if it just holds serve this week with the two recurrents ahead of it?

They'll probably just push it as much as they can this week (without annoying radio programmers too much), and then call it good. I see she did jump ahead of LBT on Billboard too (LBT had a horrible MB-to-BB audience translation), to finish the week at #6 on both charts...so if she stays ahead of them during this [likely] final push week, she'll pass both Gary and Jason, which will enable her to reach a peak of #4 instead of #5...and #4 is better than #5, right? ;)

I think if he falls hard this week he may pass her going down, she'll just need to gain a little better than she did this week, and I think Big Machine is going to push it so I can see a senario where the top three are The Band Perry, Tim McGraw & Taylor Swift. Brad just has to fall about 5 million.

^You're right. Don't know why I didn't catch that. She could get that #3 peak quite easily if Brad starts to fall fast and as soon as I saw today's MB update, I did indeed feel like Brad would be falling rather quickly this week.

I will be very happy if this can peak at #3. I was beginning to think this wouldn't have a chance at getting quite that high, but that's definitely a respectable peak. I've really become a big fan of this song. I'd say it's one of her very best singles, ever.
