I know she loves to stay in her comfort zone, but I wish Monica would have taken some risks throughout her career, like Brandy did with Full Moon and Aaliyah did with self-titled. Her catalog is pretty standard, though I love a great bit of it.

So far all the songs released are no stronger than JRFM, I don't get the point of the delay... This. I love "Just Right For Me". This new song is fine, but I don't love it. I don't like the other songs that have been released. Yeah, not really feeling any of these, even JRFM was just OK. My fave right now may be "I Know" because I like her vocal on it.

Code Red Just Right for Me Love Just Ain't Enough Call My Name I Know All Men Lie Deep Alone in Your Heart Suga I Miss Music
Definitely a much better album than the bore that was New Life. There's more variation in sound and tempo and of course she just SINGS with such passion so effortlessly. I don't hear a bunch of radio smashes, however, so it'll be interesting to see how much mileage she gets out of it. Here's to hoping she at least matches NL's numbers!

Just Right For Me Call My Name All Men Lie Alone In Your Heart Suga Ocean of Tears Anchor
Solid. Better than the last album. With as long as it took for this to come out, I expected more. She's definitely gotten the singles right so far, though.

Mon', girl. Sorry for doubting you.
This album is f**king great minus the title track tbh.
My faves: - Deep & Ocean of Tears (absolute standout tracks) - Call My Name - Saints & Sinners - Alone in Your Heart
I Miss Music is kinda cringe-worthy but cute and catchy though.
OMFG Ocean of Tears is so different for her. I'm stanning
The one thing I love the most about this album is her voice. It's gotten much better, cause some of the songs on New Life were unbearable :x

I can see "Call My Name", "Love Just Ain't Enough" and "All Men Lie" as singles. With "Alone in Your Heart" thrown out after those hit.
The album is better than I thought. "I Know" has grown on me a lot. I love basically everything except the Akon track and the title track.

Ocean of Tears is great-- it's like something Brandy and Timbaland woulda done on Afrodisiac (that's a good thing)

The album isn't as boring as "New Life," but it's far from being good. Whose idea was it to have Timbaland "sing" on two songs? He sounds absolutely terrible. And a lot of the songs have very cheap, tinny production. There are also some REALLY cheesy moments on it that I'm surprised Mo agreed to.
"Just Right for Me" is decent, and I like "Deep," "Suga" and "Ocean of Tears." That's about it.
I'm not expecting much of anything at radio. There are tracks that could be serviced to urban AC, but nothing sounds like a surefire at the format to me. And female R&B singers are pretty much obsolete at mainstream urban radio, so...

Agreed. This and New Life are easily her worst albums. "Just Right For Me" is the clear standout.

Those first week sales are going to be abyssmal though. Sad for a R&B vet.
Wonder if she'll go independent after this era. I have a feeling she's going to retire from music..

She should've got an actual male vocalist for the Timbaland track... or just left them on the cutting room floor because I can't with him. He's trying too much to be like Pharrell right now. Also that Jo'zzy Jooozy Jozzy or how ever you spell that stupid name needs to remain a songwriter and in the background with her mouth closed.

Yeesh. This album isn't good. I applaud her for taking some risks in terms of production and song structure. She sounds fabulous of course... but the songs just aren't there, one hookless track after another. This is going to be DOA and there's no salvaging it at this point. ARGH!

I actually really like this ablum. There's a lot of replay value here because the production is varied and different and some of these songs are jams.
Her voice is awesome. I do think New Life had stronger ballads, but that wasn't enough to hold that album up. This is a stronger effort overall, monica actually tried something different and it paid off. Suga is maybe the one song where she went for something experimental and it didn't execute for me. But I'm happy she went there.
Deep is my standout track.
She should send Ocean of Tears to radio.
