6. NE-YO - Let Me Love You: 129.237 (+ 1.319) Wait what. I didn't even realize this was top 15. Where've you been? This annoying thing has been climbing like no one's business on radio lately.

Nicki's "The Boys" starts out great but by the end it bores me. It's kind of monotone in a strange way and it's structured funny. I thought I was going to love it initally but by the end of the song I was happy it was over.

Any chance GS never goes to #1? Any chance it will go #1? Pop Radio has decided to kill GS as if its support wasn't paltry to begin with. (I guess the checks never arrived, got lost in the way between Korea and the US.) That's gonna easily undo any sales/streaming advantage it could ever had.

I think it has more to do with the fact that it's a grating novelty record. This type of song never tests well and usually gets a short radio window. The fact that radio even went there was pretty impressive. If you took away OMN and all the other facts were the same, would people really be complaining? No. Just like Payphone got the short end when CMM got several boosts (like Olympics), that's just the way it goes on the H100. #2 is still amazing for this type of song.

Looks like Maroon 5 and Max Martin are already looking ahead - on this week's The Voice, judge Adam Levine will be performing Daylight. At the very least, Overexposed should be their first album with 3 T10s.
Hopefully M5 won't be the new BEP, with back-to-back neverending #1s.

For comparison's sake, Taylor's songs the week after the album came out, without Complete My Album/brand-newness of album tracks to skew things: Mine 16 (from 21) & #29 download, Sparks Fly 78 (from 17) & #45 download, Innocent #74 download [Album release week: 6 T40s digitally) Love Story 14 (from 18) & #10 download, White Horse 56 (from 13) & #27 download [Album release week: 4 T40s digitally]
This week should be better, with right now still 2 T10s & 2 more T30s on iTunes.

If GS had been released in English, with everything else being the same (melody/arrangement), I think it would have gone #1, even though it would have been every bit the novelty song that the Korean version is. I really believe the Korean lyrics are what hurt it at radio more than anything else.
If going #1 here was really that serious to him or his label they'd have released an English version in fact. I don't think they will and I'm rather glad for that b/c in a way I feel that would take away from the accomplishment that GS has had. Any foreign-language song breaking through in the US is a big deal.
(And of course, GS would also have hit #1 for at least a couple weeks if BB hadn't screwed with the Hot 100 formula so that it took weight away from sales and gave it to airplay. When I think of it that way, I really cannot feel disappointed at all.)

But even with an English version, that wouldn't have stopped One More Night from gaining more airplay, which has been the deciding factor. It wasn't that GS wasn't gaining on airplay (during its peak) it's that OMT kept gaining and gaining on airplay and didn't stop. It still hasn't stopped.

But it's been a very close a couple of those weeks. I think an English version of GS would have gotten more airplay and would have been able to close the gap with OMN to go #1 at least one week.

I really believe the Korean lyrics are what hurt it at radio more than anything else. Granted it was a long time ago, but "Sukiyaki" managed to get to #1 and its lyrics are completely in Japanese.

Retro Top 10's for this week: Sidenote, it was 5 years ago this week when Blackout was infamously blocked from #1 on the album chart. My how time goes by.
Yikes, 10 years since Sean Paul's breakthrough single.
1 year ago (11/19/11)
1 1 We Found Love - Rihanna ft. Calvin Harris (2nd week of 10 @ #1) 2 3 Sexy And I Know It - LMFAO 3 2 Someone Like You - Adele 4 4 Moves Like Jagger - Maroon 5 ft. Christina Aguilera 5 6 Stereo Hearts - Gym Class Heroes ft. Adam Levine 6 7 Without You - David Guetta ft. Usher 7 5 Pumped Up Kicks - Foster The People 8 12 Good Feeling - Flo Rida 9 9 You Make Me Feel... - Cobra Starship ft. Sabi 10 8 Party Rock Anthem - LMFAO ft. Lauren Bennett & GoonRock
5 years ago (11/17/07)
1 1 Kiss Kiss - Chris Brown ft. T-Pain (2nd week of 3 @ #1) 2 2 Apologize - Timbaland & OneRepublic 3 4 No One - Alicia Keys 4 3 Crank That (Soulja Boy) - Soulja Boy 5 5 Bubbly - Colbie Cailllat 6 6 Stronger - Kanye West 7 8 Cyclone - Baby Bash ft. T-Pain 8 7 Good Life - Kanye West ft. T-Pain 9 9 Hate That I Love You - Rihanna ft. Ne-Yo 10 10 The Way I Are - Timbaland ft. Keri Hilson & D.O.E.
10 years ago (11/16/02) Poor Missy...
1 1 Lose Yourself - Eminem (2nd week of 12 @ #1) 2 3 Work It - Missy Elliott 3 2 Dilemma - Nelly & Kelly Rowland 4 7 Luv U Better - LL Cool J 5 4 Hey Ma - Cam'ron ft. Juelz Santana, Freekey Zekey & Toya 6 6 Underneath It All - No Doubt ft. Lady Saw 7 9 The Game Of Love - Santana ft. Michelle Branch 8 8 Die Another Day - Madonna 9 5 A Moment Like This - Kelly Clarkson 10 11 Gimme The Light - Sean Paul
15 years ago (11/15/97) Poor Usher....
1 1 Something About The Way You Look Tonight / Candle In The Wind 1997 - Elton John (6th week of 14 @ #1) 2 2 You Make Me Wanna... - Usher 3 3 How Do I Live - LeAnn Rimes 4 4 4 Seasons Of Loneliness - Boyz II Men 5 5 All Cried Out - Allure ft. 112 6 6 My Love Is The Shhh! - Somethin' For The People ft. Trina & Tamara 7 8 Tubthumping - Chumbawumba 8 12 My Body - LSG 9 10 The One I Gave My Heart To - Aaliyah 10 7 Foolish Games / You Were Meant For Me - Jewel
Jewel on her 51st week on the Hot 100 there and her 28th and final week in the top 10. I really dislike how this thing broke a bunch of records when it was really two different songs charting as one entity. Oh well, LeAnn breaks them all in like 12 months anyway!
Hot 100 Airplay from 15 years ago
1 1 Fly - Sugar Ray (5th week of 6 @ #1) 2 3 Tubthumping - Chumbawumba 3 4 How Do I Live - LeAnn Rimes 4 2 Foolish Games - Jewel 5 7 Walkin' On The Sun - Smash Mouth

Gangnam Style had multiple weeks where it was literally around 8k sales or 5 million AI away from #1. An English version would have allowed it to gain a tiny bit faster. Although, I don't think it would have been as big of a novelty hit, but a separate English version just for radio would have helped it get #1.

Pretty much no one understands those posts with all the numbers, so attacking "Carrie fans" seems pretty childish to me.
Suddenly the votes for Taylor fans as "worst fans" make more sense.

What's hard about #s? Isn't that, like, the point of the charts threads? To look at #s?
I mean, I LITERALLY do not understand what is hard to get about a song's Hot 100 position & Digital position. Like, what is there even not to get?
