It's a great week for American Idol winners as Phillip Phillips scores his first number one hit with "Home". In the meantime, the first American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson has this week's biggest jumper with "Catch My Breath", up from #39 to #29 (she also has the biggest jumper on the AT40 Hot AC chart this week, albeit with a much older song!). Otherwise, not a whole lot of movement on the chart this week, outside of Adele, as she jumps up 4 spots to #19 with the theme from the new James Bond film "Skyfall".
I've noticed a more "retro" feel to the chart lately, with a lot of 80's sounding songs cropping up in recent weeks. First Goyte's "Somebody That I Used To Know" hit number one earlier this year, a song with a lot of Police/Peter Gabriel influences. This week we have Bruno Mars with "Locked Out Of Heaven", which sounds like a "mash-up" of several old Police hits. And see if anyone can pick up the 80's influence after listening to the songs by Lifehouse/Natasha Bedingfield, Pink, Rihanna and Kelly Clarkson's latest hits here. They all could pass for songs that charted about 25 years ago.
