So, Scotty McCreery's album was certified GOLD this week and it's sales are at 168,000. I know certifications come from the shipping numbers, but that seems like a lot over. Usually things certify when they have sold around 420,000. Any explanations?!?!

The Green Day albums really aren't doing well. The three album release and its singles rollout was quite messy. I think they could have seen much better results with one album comprised of the best tracks, and better handled singles.

Blake Shelton's Xmas album was certified Gold when it had sold only ~58k.

They shipped 500k. They still have 5 weeks of sales.

They'll be returned in January and then shipped back to retail next November. They'll get sold.

Why are people acting like it took the RIAA a long time to certify Adele Diamond. Seriously, a long time is what they took to certify "MMLP" and "TES".

Either that or releasing a double or triple album probably would've been their best bet.

Albums don't get certified early.

Their sales are technically made as far as the label if concerned.

Correct - each certification is like an audit of the books from an accounting perspective. If it can't be verified, then it didn't happen.

If an album is CERTIFIED gold then it shipped 500,000 copies. It would not be certified gold based on future assumptions of what MIGHT happen

Also, if one retailer wants to buy 350k copies of Nicki Minaj's latest re-release of a deluxe edition, they are allowed to do so and it counts towards the units shipped. They might never be sold.

You do realize that the RIAA is not responsible for the late certifications.

The label has to contact the RIAA for an audit.

The audit is done by the RIAA.

The label pays for the certification.

The RIAA issues the certification.

We've had this conversation many times here before.

Labels just aren't interested in paying for catalog album certifications.

For October, *8* albums were certified.

*38* singles were certified.
