Nope, no live renditions that we know of.
It's not my favorite from the debut, but I enjoy it.

I like every song on her debut, but this or "There's Got To Be A Way" would be my least favorite.

This is one of my all time favorite Mariah Carey album tracks. Her debut has zero filler and I wish the record company would've milked it more. Every single song could've been a top 5 hit IMO. I always wanted to see her belt "You Need Me" out live, because the vocal after the bridge and until the end is total explosion. The solo is great too. Joan Jett could never!

^She may have circa 1990, in interviews or whatever, but I couldn't find anything. It wasn't totally neglected- it was on the UK CD maxi of "Love Tales Time" and then was the sole B-side to "I Don't Wanna Cry."

My least favorite on the album. I much prefer Janet's "You Need Me".

Smash. So good. Her voice really is so versatile, this track is only one obvious example of that. You should check out "You're So Cold" from Emotions! if you like this. That's a little more dancey, but her vocals remind me of YNM.

This is the worst song on her debut imo.

This doesn't fit Mariah at all. Not a fan in the least.

Probably my least favorite on her debut. There's no denying she sounds great. But the production has dated so badly, I can't get around it.

I don't dislike it at all; it's different for Mariah both in production and her vocal delivery. I like it, it's just not a favorite.

It's very 80s Pointer Sisters or something. I honestly don't think I've ever actively listened to it before. Her vocal is living.
Get it girl. Go in on that beat.

That guitar intro was unexpected to say the absolute least. I was like HELL-O. Oh... now she gonna get sassy? YES. And those vocal effects. I'm on board.
Sounds like a song that Kelly Clarkson would have recorded on her debut, and that's not a diss.

And the songwriting is tight. I didn't take the Kelly comment as a diss, and now that you mention it, this song seems like a template for a lot of Kelly's career tbh. By the way, that's Vernon Reid (Living Colour) on guitar.

Although I was overwhelmed with music at that time, so her singles were the only sure things... and I LOVED all of them. Vernon? Really? Ok - even better. BB is coming on... Gotta go.

That guitar intro was unexpected to say the absolute least. Oh, and funny story about that intro. I wasn't yet 10 when this album came out, but I was hooked from 21 jump street. I remember being in a record store (Camelot!) and an older male customer asked the store to play the album. I was excited for him to buy it. They played the first part of a lot of the tracks and then the intro to this came on...and the old guy said "No" and walked off. Lol. I was so heartbroken back then that he passed on the album.

I was so heartbroken back then that he passed on the album. ***COMMERCIAL BREAK**** Camelot!?!?! OMG. My first job in college and in retail was at a Camelot store. I then transferred to the Mall of America Camelot store where I eventually got busted for giving my friend a free CD punch card, so before I got fired, I quit and got a better job at Sam Goody. True story. Good intentions, bad execution. I feel old. I was in high school when Mariah's debut came out. Actually, no, I don't feel old. Wait, yes I do. Nope, age is a number. Final answer. Anyway, sweet story about you as a 10 year old. I can totally relate - as a music retail employee I was always excited when people bought stuff I liked, and destroyed when they didn't. I tried to be quite the salesman. And at Camelot we had this jukebox that we could program with songs that played in the store, and I was ALL. ABOUT. IT.

Underrated track. It had a little rock edge to it.
