You know, Mariah probably would've made the top ten, if not the top five, in previous years had she been allowed to chart. Didn't it get to #1 on iTunes a few years back?

Just another reason that the '90s charts were screwed up beyond belief by the labels. Truly, if AIWFC had been released as a commercial single in 1994 (y'know, like the 50,000 or so hit songs up until that point in history), it would have debuted on the Hot 100, probably gone top 10, and a generation of fans and chart watchers could have put the issue to bed 18 years ago.

Madonna leads all female soloists with 49 top 40 hits, followed by Aretha Franklin (43) and Taylor Swift (39).
I guess Mariah's getting closer to reaching the level of Taylor's success.

I was kidding, though I'm glad that the response was made by someone who said "Everything about Red is just bad" so my opinion of that person is re-justified.

KIP MOORE – Beer Money: 59.951 (- 1.460) I know most people in this thread probably don't care about the country artists charting here, but this can't possibly be right. Kworb's site shows Kip up more than 500k in today's Mediabase update.

Ouch, another week with a sub-200 #1 and a sub-150 #2. Almost with the same #s too. This happens every year before Xmas. The low numbers, the repeated comments about the low numbers or both?

At least Mimi Carey's track now will have something more fitting for the record books. Sony opted not to issue a single back in the day, so it was what it was. A top 20 placement would be nice.
AIWFCIY reached No. 1 on Digital Songs in 2005; not sure if it would have been top 10. In one year (forget which, but I believe post-2005), Billboard reported that it would have ranked No. 14 in a given week.

Yeah, people assume that because "AIWFCIY" was #1 on Digital Songs it would have gone top 5/10, but downloads were low back then, and its airplay usually peaks around #20. I doubt that total would have been top 5, and it may not have been top 10. It's easily one of her best-known songs, if not her best, so a #1 ranking would have been nice. But had a commercial single been released, Merry Christmas may not have sold as well so it's a catch-22.

In 2005, there were worth 2x airplay - that's how Kayne with 80k? jumped over SIO in September. (It was #19 just on airplay, I think. So it's entirely possible AIWFCIY would've hit the Top 10 or 5 spot with that combo. Doesn't matter.

Still not fond of this song reappearing every year now and blocking some current songs from reaching a higher peak. Honestly, the H100 has been an inaccurate measure for year. During the 70s, 80s and early 90s - only pop radio counted, but sales for everything were included, so it wasn't completely pure, but, for the most part, it was the definitive POP measure. (This doesn't even count pre-BDS and Soundscan measuring and how we discovered how inaccurate "self-reporting" truly was by radio and retail.) Then we had the awful 90s when dozens of major hits weren't included because of the lack of a single release. Then came Dec. 1998 that blended airplay from all formats - turning it away from a pop chart. In 2005, digital FINALLY came into play, but was weighted WAY TOO high. Billboard is always YEARS behind the times. (Like not allow songs to chart on H100 if 12" single - Into The Groove, but they chart on Black Singles Chart.) The list goes on and on and on.... I'm sure we could have an entire thread of BB ridiculous "rules." LOL

Paul Grein must be going by what appears in Joel Whitburn's book- that AIWFCIY charted at No. 83 because of the remix- which most likely was not the case as a) Mimi was the only credit on the chart and b)That was before a bulk of AC stations turned into wall-to-wall holiday music very early in the season- so its charting in the 60s on Hot 100 Airplay likely was a result, mostly, of the original's airplay.
As for 2005- the sales divider for digital sales back then was 5 (rather than when it went back to the popular sales divider of 120 in summer 2007). When AIWFCIY climbed 4-1 on Hot Digital Songs, its sales lead over No. 2 was less than 250 units (its lead over No. 3 was roughly 6,100. So, it had around 8,263 points from sales. it probably had top 20 airplay (BDS-wise), so it could have been top 10- doesn't really matter now, though.

As things look right now, Taylor will destroy Aretha and Madonna's success with her next album. right? shame on you.

Holy crap, Swedish House Mafia shot up to 14!!! Streaming must really be helping this.. it's airplay it still outside the top 20 and it was only the 18th best seller in digital this week... Wow I wonder.. I just wonder if it'll be able to climb into the top 10 at some point? Also very happy to see Ed Sheeran finally crack the Top 20 too!

Oh, I've got a feeling that Call Me Maybe will drop off the Hot 100 before STIUTK.

Still not fond of this song reappearing every year now and blocking some current songs from reaching a higher peak. Wow, one spot. I wonder how these other artists will make it through their winter knowing that Mimi has an enduring classic. :'( Could be the difference between a "Top 20" & a "Top 30"...just sayin.

^Maybe BB will amend the rule down the line, that a track only can re-enter a certain number of times.

This season: The Voice - 7 charters (and counting) Glee - 2 charters
It looks like Some Nights will last longer than We Are Young. How odd.
