American Top 40 - December 15, 2012

I'm guessing that this will be the final, regular, chart of the year (unless Ryan tells us otherwise Ryan confirmed in hour 2 that the top 40 of the year will be next week). It stands to reason, that the next two weekends will be occupied by the year-end chart.

It seems there's an error on the web site, this week. "Wanted" is the debut, not "It's Time".

They did a terrible job spacing the extras, this week. There are double-ups in the first two hours and an, almost, three-car-pile-up at the bottom of the third hour. Why is it so difficult to spread these things out?

Boring week.

I would like to see "Titanium" hit a jackpot. I think "Without You" hit it at 34-34-(34) when it stayed at that number for 6 weeks in a row. Ellie Goulding is in very good shape to hit 40+, maybe 50 weeks on the chart as well.

There are, now. :) Always have to wait 'til the show airs Saturday morning to get those. They don't post them on the web site.

With eleven extras it may have been difficult to space them out all evenly, unless they were willing to put them after every third or fourth song. But they didn't need three instances of two of them back-to-back, with two blocks in which three out of four and three out of five songs are not part of the countdown.

One could argue that eleven extras is too many, but if they had that much time to fill I'm fine with them, as otherwise the time would likely be taken up with talk that has little or nothing to do with the countdown (AT40 had a lot more of that a few years ago.) Among the extras is the only dropper of the week, which prevents this from being the first One Direction-less AT40 since March (for that streak to stay alive "Little Things" will have to debut the first week of January.)

Too bad Beyonce didn't have a hit this year. That means her streak of one Top 40 hit every calendar year since 1998 ended in 2011.

Anyway, Ryan mentioned that Hunter Hayes is the first male solo country artist to have a Top 40 hit since Tim McGraw in 2005.

Also, he mentioned that Ke$ha is tied with Bruno Mars for 3rd place for most #1s this decade, right after Rihanna and Katy Perry.

While I actually like Hunter's song better, it probably should have been "It's Time" debuting instead - right? I'd think that "It's Time" would be high enough to debut, while Hunter should have been at least a couple weeks out still.

Well. Pretty decent chart to end 2012. I agree that It's Time should have entered this week. But it's definitely going to come in on the next AT40 chart. "I Knew You Were Trouble" and "Sweet Nothing" are also expected to make debuts. Since I'm too sluggish to make a page about this, here is my predictions for the Top 40 songs of 2012.

I love the update in Justin's new song. We're gonna party like it's 3012, instead of 1999. With all those extras (and they could have placed them better), we get only one breakout. And Rihanna gets 2 extras? At least the 241 is back and well-placed to flesh out the usually short 07-06 segment.The month of December looks like 2007's, and the year end weeks this year are the same as they were then. Ryan tried to get excited about the top 40 next week by saying "so many great songs." I'm thinking too bad we won't get to hear a whole lot of them.
I understand that due to the horrible tragedy in CT many stations have stopped playing Kesha's song. I wonder if any stations didn't play it on AT 40 this weekend. It won't be a problem the
next couple of weeks as it doesn't seem it will be in the top 40 of the year.

Since we're making predictions, I'll throw my hat into the ring.

Here's what I came up with for year-end rankings using simple, no frills, inverse points starting with the first December 2011 chart (12/03/11) and ending with the final November 2012 chart (11/24/12), since I was curious to see what it would look like.

Before I did this, my gut was telling me that, either, "Glad You Came" or "Good Feeling" will, probably, end up being AT40's top song of the year. Inverse points seems to support this, as both are, firmly, in the lead. We'll see what happens next week.

I did not email them. It seems, someone or something else brought the error to their attention.
