Aaliyah Dana Haughton, was a Singer, Dancer, Model , Actress and a princess;-) , those are her titles but i just knew her as one of the most beautiful, talented, humble people in the industry, she shaped a huge part of my life through her music. Her albums helped me through the trials and tribulations of my young life, her music eased my soul in the dark days and uplifted me and in my happy moments she made me smile and dance with her, she was like a best friend, a sister a mentor, she is far and away my favorite performer of all time. In this tribute i want to share my favorite songs, videos and other moments with you all. We all know that Aaliyah isnt with us in body anymore i dont even want to get into all that drama darlin, but feel free to leave your comments and your favorite moments , i will try to limit updating to 2 or 3 songs a day so be patient with me.

#31 (BONUS)
Never Givin' Up , on the 1996 album "One in a Million"
I personally love this song, the vocal are laced with sugar, it's a laid back slow jam that puts your soul at ease and if you don't replay this song more than once you have no emotions, it fits very well with the rest of the album and music at that time. There is a vibe to Aaliyah song's that just cant be replicated try as they might, this is just a chill song!!.......

#30 Old School, on the 1994 Debut " Age Aint Nothing but a Number"
This was the first song she recorded, she was only 14 it samples Isley Brothers " Between the Sheets", its a very 90's hip-hop type of song , it remains a favorite of mine today, love the snappy feel and Aaliyah's vocal on the beat. I adore how they tried to mix the 80's with the 90's on this record

# 29- Heartbroken, on the 1996 album " One In A Million"
What can I say about this song that isnt obvious , Aaliyah bares her soul and sings her ass off and the production is very slick and takes the song to a whole other level than just another ballad, i love songs about heartache !, i use to play this alot when i first got the album but it didnt stay fresh with me and thats why its ranked so low.

Second live performance is Aaliyah's FINAL performance before god took her :'( please note the tummy, jealous? I think so, that face that body that voice , i know some like to say a certain big female rnb/pop singer is the complete package but let me introduce you to the 1st perfection and the one who inspired her

#28- The One I Gave My Heart To, on the 1996 album "One In A Million
Well you aint a diva until you sing a song written by Diane Warren, i really dont like her song writing or anything Diane is involved in but i did enjoy how this track allowed Aaliyah to showcase her pipe's and allowed them room to flourish, this is a power ballad and leaned more to the pop side than her usual R&B and Hip-hop and there isnt anything wrong with some diversity

#27 Down with the Clique, on the 1994 " Age Aint Nothing But A Number"
Love this head boppin song, is it me or did she have a lot of swagger and a bit risque for a young girl?! this song I feel got swept up and tossed aside but is right up there with the other singles of that album and is a bit underrated IMO.

#26 Enough Said , on the album TBD
I'm sure we all wondered what type of music Aaliyah would make if she was still alive, this song gave us a small sample. It captured the essence of her music and those smooth style and sound we all love her for. However there is still something missing , the production was ill but the guest appearance leaves alot to be desired and it was a tad repetitive , overall it was still better than alot of songs put out by living R&B singers.

#25 More Than A Woman, on the 2001 album "Aaliyah"
I know a lot of people love this song, it was nominated for a Grammy for best R&B Vocal and I believe is the only UK number one single for Aaliyah , it achieved some worldwide success, it was a fun diddy with a typical beat that made you wanna dance along with her.At the time of its release i was obsessed with it but after spending a few day's listening to her WHOLE catlogue again i dropped it down the ranking a little bit not because of how i feel about the song really but its more due to how strong her body of work is over the span of her short career. Tonight when you are getting ready to go out to the club this is the jam you should play to get you in the mood darlin.

I prefer the Soul Solution remix of it. It's easily one of her best remixes and one of Soul Solution's best ones too.

#24 Street Thing, on the 1994 album "Age Aint Nothing but a Number"
This is a slow burner right up there with the best of them, oh the memories this evokes!!, One day while i assumed mama was still at work i got tired of sneaking around and listening to music with headphones so i blasted this and started grooving, well the door opens and this angry bitch walks in and BOY did i get my ass torn the fuck up!! Everything about this song from the groove to the instrumental to the perfect harmony is amazing to me.

For the poll I had to go with One in a Million. It's the album that REALLY made me fall in love with her when I was a kid. I stole my brother's copy, who he took from his best friend Jessie and played it to death. The fact that every single had an ill remix to accompany it was also a delight: If Your Girl Only Knew (Timbaland Remix) feat Missy and Timbaland One in a Million (Timbaland Remix) feat Ginuwine and Timbaland 4 Page Letter (Quiet Storm Remix) Hot Like Fire (Timbaland's Groove Mix) (Released Version) *Death of a Playa (Included on the Maxi of ^) The One I Gave My Heart To (Soul Solution Club Mix) Got To Give It Up (Remix)
Only person who has given us an era like that recently with all new remixes was Mariah with TEOM.
All unique and totally different from their respective album versions. It made you want to collect each and every CD Single and Maxi Single.

@ JBEY No baby it look's naturally beautiful your just too used to the over processed gOrls.
BMCA it was really hard for me to choose between the first 2 albums she put out, but had to give the edge to One In A Million.

#23 I Don't Wanna, on the 2000 Next Friday & Romeo Must Die SoundtrackThis melodic mid tempo is a testament to Aaliyah remarkable ability to make songs that touch us and make us bop at the same time, she had a uncanny ability to speak to us R&B fans in a way that is so relatable, baby girl i dont wanna be without your music. {this one goes out to S.T, wherever you be right now }

YES! @ "I Don't Wanna." I remember being in Houston for the winter break with my cousin, brother and aunt and they premiered this on 97.9 KBXX the Boxx. It was during the time when you had to record those kinds of things on a cassette. I wore that mixtape OUT over this song.

Death of a Playa is what i call a slinky hazy cut perfect if you wanna blaze a joint grab a drink and chill tha fuck out or just go for a ride and think of LIFE and all the day to day bullshit we all go through, baby girl can you please come back one more time and show these lost girls how its done!
