On country, for real? I guess she does have a bit of a country sound. "Picture" also made the country chart, but didn't do that well. Did any of her other songs hit the country chart?

None of her other stuff made it. I think "Picture" did pretty well considering. It made #21 on Billboard and went recurrent.

It's weird because when I first heard this song, it almost reminded me of "Landslide" by the Dixie Chicks.

Really? I was sure that some tracks from her first album made the Country chart. When I read about her in 1994, they called her Country Rock. Plus, she wore denims a lot

If "Stong Enough" came out right now, it'd be a candidate for airplay on country. The steel guitars in the middle of the song gives it even more of a country feel.

Because "Picture" peaked at #18 on Country radio, I believe Sheryl Crow may have an appeal trend running on this format and I wouldn't be suprised to see this break the Top 30 briefly on Country.
Don't expect massive waves for this single, but this can definitely chart.
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

Didn't think I'd see this, but it's now listed as going for adds on October 27th. I could see this going both ways - being like "Picture" and making the top 25, or being like "Lights Out" and not even cracking the top 60.

i am very pleased to hear or read rather that sheryl is making an impact albeit a little one on country radio. i really like the new song and it does have a mass appeal. it defintely a good choice to help sell her upcoming greatest hits collection.

Billboard says she got her second consecutive debut at Number 57 on their Country chart (the first being "Picture").

Review from All Access Country section: SHERYL CROW/The First Cut Is The Deepest (A&M/MERCURY) Review by Jim Asker After her resounding success with the KID ROCK duet, "Picture," it only made sense that SHERYL CROW got her own, full fledged Country release. From her new Greatest Hits album, is an update on the Rod Stewart classic, "The First Cut Is The Deepest." To be honest, I tried not to like it. After all, why should we pander to a pop star like Crow, when there's plenty of female talent in our format who are more deserving of that coveted playlist slot. Such as...ummm...hymmm...uhhhhh...hoo-boy. Okay, the song. Probably not so hot, right? Wrong! With it's simple yet sparkling production, layered guitars and a warm-soulful vocal performance that stays true to the original recording, this is simply a perfect Country song. Hey give the girl a break anyways. She's from Kennett, MO, right outside of Memphis. She just moved to Nashville and was dead on as a young June Carter-Cash during the Johnny Cash tribute on the CMA Awards. This chick is Country. Plus, your listeners will love it. I'd play the hell out of it if I were you. Impacting Now. It's Number 35 on Mediabase with good audience per spin and four top ten market stations in its 19 leaders. The audience helps it be ahead of six songs with more spins.

Does anyone else find it interesting how this happens to also be a song Cat Stevens covered, and of course Cat Stevens said some pretty controversial comments at one time and converted to Islam and has been of this religion ever since?
With the tumultuous conditions happening in the Middle East and all, I wonder if somehow country radio is unaware this is a song that Cat Stevens also covered and had they known, would they react in a way similar to how they did to the Dixie Chicks that can hurt Sheryl Crow, as they tend to take everything way too seriously?
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

I believe Cat Stevens wrote the song. Rod Stewart was the first to cover it.

I believe Cat Stevens wrote the song. Rod Stewart was the first to cover it. I knew Cat Stevens was an important part of this song's history, just wasn't sure if Cat or Rod came first in its legacy. Sincerely, Noah Eaton
