Thrift Shop is going to be #1 for awhile If I was a betting man, I would give it better than 50-50 odds of 8+ weeks. It is still growing in popularity on all 3 component charts which is unusual. I need to listen to the song again, because so far the secret to its' popularity is eluding me. ??? It's nothing special, really. A nice novelty song, and that's about it. |

It's nothing special, really. A nice novelty song, and that's about it. and it will proudly join the ranks of other unforgettable hip-hop novelty hits such as "This is Why I'm Hot", "BedRock", "I Love College", etc The only one of those I would even possibly call a novelty hit is "I Love College". I don't know how the other two would be categorized as novelty hits at all. There's nothing about them that's gimmicky, funny, or fad-ish. They're fairly typical late 00s hip-hop songs. |

Question (and I hope it's ok to ask this here)...if a service such as iTunes or Amazon MP3 gives a song away free for a week, do those sales count towards its Hot 100 points? I know labels sometimes discount songs for a week if they're vying with one another for the top spot, but I wasn't sure if there was a 'cutoff' for the sales to be counted.
I'm wondering mainly because Google Play & Amazon MP3 both currently have Jason Aldean's "The Only Way I Know" (ft. Luke Bryan & Eric Church) for free, so if those sales count, I'd assume it's because Jason's label is pushing for #1 on the new methodology Hot Country Songs chart, since the song is now just at its peak airplay position but is in a tough battle with The Band Perry's "Better Dig Two" and Gary Allan's "Every Storm (Runs Out Of Rain)". Also, Gary is #1 on the airplay chart and TBP looks like they will be in only a week or two, but Jason might get blocked out of the top spot on the airplay chart, so if those free 'sales' count, then Jason's label has a chance to get him #1 on the hybrid chart, which they'd probably be content with if he can't crown the radio charts.

Published audience gains are: +1.603 and +0.183 vs. all stations: +1.722 and +0.210 So he got bigger gains including all stations. I think either there was a too large update in the past or tomorrow will see a big update. Something's not adding up. |

So yesterday all stations was +1.793 and +0.207 = +2.000, overall was +2.019 which would make sense, a little gained on AC or rhythmic. kworb.net/radio/click on all stations and just published and you'll see the differences I'm talking about. Not big most of the time, but that often explains overall inconsistencies. Which is why I think today, such a big difference, is an error. |
