I don't even CARE how this thread got to that conversation. Just get back to talking about Mariah.

Did you all see the video? It aired on VH1 at about 10:30 this AM. Mariah called in and talked for a minute.

I would think if they entire video aired, it would be on MariahDaily. I could be wrong, though.

I like this song but I hope it's a reminder that even if the label pushed it , Pop and AC ain't here for Mimi...she need to serve Urban and Urban AC only and let the others formats jump on it or leave it alone. Mariah after this album needs to actually just focus on the mature Urban AC crowd only

I swear It aired. It's only her in that room plus scenes from the movie. When it was over, the VH1 interviewer clapped. It was weird.

Pop has always been Mariah's core format, but I definitely could see that changing as she ages. Her last hit ("Obsessed") fared better on Pop than any other format, despite the label waiting for like a month to send it for adds there. I think Mariah should do Mariah. I'm glad Island didn't send AH or Triumphant for Pop adds. She'll have a single out come May probably, and she'll definitely need all the airplay she can get.

She should at least attempt to cater to Pop this time around since Idol is helping her out in the relevancy department.

Rhythmic has been Mariah's core for at least a decade. "Obsessed" did best at Rhythmic, not CHR/Pop.

Anyway, Rhythmic isn't what it used to be...so much of the panel went Pop. But yes, for Mimi, TMB, and Obsessed, it was her core format.

It may have had more impressions because CHR/Pop has more listeners (I don't know if it did), but it peaked at #8 CHR/Pop. It went to #2 Rhythmic.

I'm surprised Mimi didn't perform AH on the show this week; next week, Bon Jovi and Phillip Phillips have performances. But, the bit they did play definitely gave it a spike on iTunes.

^There was no time to perform that song tonight. AI ran over the 1.5 hours tonight by a few minutes as it is.

I know, this whole new process didn't run as smoothly as it could have (i.e. the run-over).
If the video premieres tomorrow, I don't think Idol would air the whole video- in the past, it's done "premieres," where it showed, like, a minute of a video.

I wish they'd push Almost Home at rhythmic, UAC, HAC and pop. To me, it doesn't sound Adult Contemporary at all. And if she really has an album out in May, I wouldn't mind this being the first single and her going with something more uptempo for a second single.

It's pretty clear that the song is a side project and with her album dropping by May or early Summer, I'm glad that they are leaving Almost Home in AC purgatory and trying not to confuse Pop, Rhythmic, and Urban PDs with her album lead single which will likely be out very soon.
AH is vocally a nice little diddy but it isn't a song to pave the way for a Mariah album. The way it's been "barely mentioned" by her team pretty much suggest they want to album hype to be driven by a real lead single.

I'm just worried it'll be another mid tempo lead single (which won't be as good as AH), followed by the ballad second single that Mimi champions as a return to form, which ultimately stops all album momentum and sends us waiting for her next studio album. We KNOW Almost Home is a good, quality song. I'd rather go with it than with the unknown (which, with Mariah, hasn't been all too unknown, or all too great, lately)

I can see why some fans like Almost Home but I also also see why isn't is a good song to push for the album.
My take from the reactions so far is that the song really isn't a "Mariah" song in terms of the delivery and production and even then, it is not nearly fresh enough to drive any momentum or hype. Any ole music starlet could have sung that song.
Her R&B fans have mostly dismissed it and I think they likely represent the biggest core of her current base.

I think its a good thing she changed it up a bit.. shes always been a versatile artist and though her love has always been RnB, she had a lot of fans who loved her pop songs who are very happy she did something like "Almost Home"... this is most evident with the initial reaction she got from "triumphant" this summer from her hardcore fan base..
