It still surprises me how many people I personally know who don't like or actually hate Mimi (not sure why I know people with horrid tastes, but that's besides the point) who actually love #Beautiful. The lesbian who hates every Mimi record keeps stanning over it every day at work, the people who don't even listen to pop and r&b records telling me or agreeing with me when I bring it up how awesome and great it is. I think it was a wasted opportunity to grab people who would never buy a Mariah album.

The question is if Mariah wants to work with him. In the interview Walter said Randy Jackson contacted him while Mariah was working on Merry Christmas II You and told him there'd be a possibility for them to write together. Why would he do that if Mariah wasn't interested? People in the industry or even corporate America rarely ever say no, they usually say we will re-evaluate or we will get back to you or that's a great idea!! Lol anything will come out of their mouths but the word NO. These people are fake and fake bitches never just say what's on their mind.

I'm pretty sure it's too late now. I think they're going to go for a first single in mid-January and then album in March/April?

Sounds like this project will either finish off her commercial potency or at least set her up for a respectable run at all the award shows next year. I don't think she has a clue of what she's doing whether its professionally or musically anymore. At her vocal best these days, she's still a deep well for hits albeit more so for the mature record listener. Her songwriting could use a new pen because she's approaching on self parody with the last few songs released. She sounds like she has severe writer's constipation.
Her, Toni B & MJB really need to get a grip and realize that being older doesn't mean you are finished but more so as in taking your place among the legends and teaching the Beyonce's, Christina's & Alicia's how to adept with the ebbs & flows of the industry. Patti, Chaka & Donna had no qualms about it when it was their turn. I so agree with you. You stated it really well.

I have been listening to MARIAH CAREY albums all Thanksgiving from the debut up until the one after Butterfly, forgot what its called. I feel like I'm the one merging with Mariah. Maybe Jazzy will change the title to Mariah Carey Merges with Coco!<3

Almost Home was never marketed as a single.

So will this be her third first single? lol Fourth, actually. If we count Almost Home. If you want to rewrite history, yes. "Almost Home," however, has nothing to do with her album and was never promoted as the lead single. Nowhere in her announcement does she consider this to be the lead single, either.

"Almost Home" indeed was marketed as a single- but not as one from her album.
I'm just glad the banner doesn't mention anything about a "new era," as that appeared on the one for "#Beautiful" and then the then-planned album release date.

Releasing a new single right before the holiday freeze when she's been struggling anyway is so stupid. I wonder if they're going to rush release the album right before Christmas to try to get holiday sales.

It's so nice to have new Mariah music! :) I was scared we wouldn't hear anything new from her until 2014. And if "The Art of Letting Go" is a ballad - which seems likely - it's gonna be awesome to listen to considering the season.

I wouldn't be surprised if this came out around Dec. 23.

I'm happy to see things moving along, but she is really setting herself up for failure again with that schedule. Announcing the single today but having it premiere a month later, and a month before the freeze no less?

Jazzy / Colson, I thought the same thing when I first saw the date... what a dumb move... but after I thought about it, I realized why it was a brilliant one.
Here's why: - She will be one of the top trending arists then with everyone downloading All I Want for Xmas, so it will help boost sales. - It seems like recent artists have garnered airplay based on sales more consistently than payola. Examples include Lorde, who after dominating the digital sales charts is now starting to get airplay. - By having strong sales, Mariah will appear "relevant" to radio, and they'll spin her more. Yes... airplay will be slow during the lead-up to Xmas, but her sales will be so strong during the period, that radio may actually play her in January. - If #Beautiful sold more in digital sales / iTunes (like was in the Top 5 for four weeks), it might have had more longevity on radio. - She's never tried this strategy, so why not give it a shot? The spring releases in the past have sometimes worked, sometimes not.
I feel like PMs are looking more and more at digital sales instead of things like ratethemusic.com (music industry insiders, please feel free to share your opinions here) , and in terms of digital sales, Xmas is definitely the period for Mariah to capitalize, in a way she never has before. I think this strategy is one of the best strategies anyone on her team has ever put together. It took me a while to get it, but now it seems obvious as to why she is rushing this out to take advantage of her Xmas popularity.
I haven't posted in months, so I guess I'm making up for it with a long post.

Pulling a "Royals" is highly unlikely considering her past digital performance and where she currently is in her career.

I hope it comes out in December. Mariah is the type of artist where she doesn't need months and months of a single being released to have a hit album. Hell, I remember Clive wouldn't drop Whitney's first singles until the album release date was only a few weeks away (and it worked most times).
Book an Oprah interview/the View/Ellen/AMAs etc. and lets get that album out on December 3rd.
Lets get it Mimi!

Maybe it'll be in the vein of her classic song about (her inability) to let go...

Sounds like it'll be a ballad. It is. It was produced by either JD or Rodney Jerkins. I forget which one. I think it was Jermaine because Larry Gold spoke about it after a session with Mariah and JD in LA.

I'm thinking they're not even focused on a radio hit at this point. They're probably going to use the holiday season to book tons of appearances for her to cross-promote her Christmas albums (well the first one at least) and the new album. An intense promo schedule helped her to sell an impressive number of copies of Charmbracelet around the holiday season despite the lack of a radio hit. That's only if they actually end up releasing the album in December.

While I'm excited that we're getting the single soon, 11/11/13 is such an odd date to release one because the Christmas freeze will occur fairly early in the song's run. Also, assuming the album is released two months after the first single, that'd mean we'd get this album in January, a slow sales month. I don't expect we'd get an album in January.
