What other reason would Stevie be sitting in the studio with JD?

The last Stevie Wonder x JD collaboration was on Confessions Part 1 when Stevie plays the harmonica randomly. Loved it.

Oh. Stevie is Mariah's favorite singer, right? I'm excited for this.

If it's a Mimi-Stevie collabo, would it be too much to hope that JD didn't have a hand in producing it? I'd love to hear Mimi in a classic Stevie-sounding track, but I have doubts that JD could do that justice.

Most of Stevie's recent collaborations (and by recent, I mean the past decade) are just him playing harmonica and/or keyboard. I wonder if he actually sings on it.

I think it would slay, surprisingly.

Britney Spears is premiering her new single on Facebook tomorrow, so that will give us some idea of how it may work with Mariah's new single. You can listen to the song on Facebook, but Brit has an Itunes date and apparently MC doesn't. Jermaine said the song is going to iTunes on Nov 11.

ughh as a Mariah fan its so frustrated. all momentum she had from idol and #beautiful is gone and now there seems to be no buzz of any kind for "letting go". I just don't understand

Yesterday was Rainbow's 14th anniversary, Mariah put up this banner on her facebook: I've been loving these. They create this sense of nostalgia around her music that I really like.

Okay!? That, 'Crybaby', 'Petals' and 'Heartbreaker' (all versions of it are amazing, her best all around single release) are some of her best work. I also love the melody of the original 'Thank God I Found You' and the 'Make It Last' remix is a career highlight. 'X-Girlfriend' would've made a hot single at the time too. Her version of 'Against All Odds' is great.

I hope it is a proper duet. Would love to hear some Stevie and Mariah. Their voices should blend together quite nicely. Rainbow is one of my least favorite albums of hers. That album was very messy. The highlight of that entire era was the Thank God I Found You remix.

What other reason would Stevie be sitting in the studio with JD? Well, he could have happened to be in the same studio, or could have just been playing harmonica or something on the song. We don't know that it's a true collaboration/duet.

Rainbow is easily the album of hers that would most benefit from a remastered release. I like "Bliss" so much more via the remastered version on Playlist. In general the mixing and sound quality of that album was bad. Having said that, "Crybaby" and "Petals" are career highlights, "Heartbreaker" is really fun/catchy, and that album produced a lot of great remixes. "Bliss" has grown on me, and, yes, the melody of "TGIFY" is beautiful. I also loved the Homecoming TV special.

The vocal tracks on the remastered Rainbow songs on Playlist still sound low quality to me. The volume on them just seems adjusted lower, but they still have a tinny sound to them. I think the issue was the recording equipment itself, not the mastering job.

I absolutely love "Heartbreaker", especially the "Heartbreaker/If You Should Ever Be Lonely" (Junior's Heartbreaker Club Mix) included on her Remixes CD

I think the issue was the recording equipment itself, not the mastering job. Oh I definitely think there were issues with the equipment or something and that remastering won't fix it all (there was clearly an issue with everything done in Capri). At the same time, there are things on Rainbow I think could be fixed with remastering. There are a couple of spots in various vocals where distortion occurs. I can't believe that ever made it to release, but even so a remastered version should fix that. And even a slightly cleaner sound would help the album.

I think the thing that makes me annoyed about Rainbow is it really was the start of her "dumbing down" her music. It really was a terrible follow up to one of her best albums Butterfly. The fact that songs like X-Girlfriend and Did I Do That exist makes me want to cringe.

I LOVE Rainbow and I'm glad you guys are discussing the fact that the entire thing doesn't sound very mastered because I always thought it was my CD or the files or something that made the album sound low in her vocals and the production. Everything just seems unfinished? I don't know how to explain it but besides the weird mastering or recording, I think the album remains amazing and a lot of the tracks on there are some of her best! Loving Crybaby for the rest of my life.

Yes, Mystikal's shouting on that song should have never happened, but I think the lyrics are great. The production isn't bad either; I especially love that menacing synth/keyboard line.

Rainbow was has always been one of my least favorite album heartbreaker was fun and a great single (it just always bugged me that you can sing the Heartbreaker chorus basically right over the Dreamlover chorus). the two choruses always sounded exactly the same to me! "Heartbreaker got the best of me..." "Dreamlover come and resuce me"....
I still really love Heartbreaker though. LOVE the Jay Z rap on that song!

the two choruses always sounded exactly the same to me! "Heartbreaker got the best of me..." "Dreamlover come and resuce me".... You quoted one fragment from each of their respective choruses. That isn't even close to the entire chorus, so I don't see how the choruses sound exactly alike. You can't sing "take me up, take me down" in place of "but I just keep on coming back incessantly" or "I need you so desperately" over "Oh why did you have to run your game on me."

I still love the song

Y'all are not gonna come for X-Girlfriend like that! It's so '99, and the ad libs alone>>>! I loved parts of this album bc of the riffs and melismatic ad libs she used on songs like the bridge on After Tonight, X GF, Crybaby, and the end of Against All Odds. She had used melisma similarly on Butterfly, but her tone on the Rainbow record brought a new feel that I was completely here for.

"X-Girlfriend" is such a product of its time, but it probably would have had a better shot at being a radio hit in 2000 than "Can't Take That Away" and "Crybaby" (and maybe even "Thank God I Found You").

I'm more shocked that the Usher duet wasn't a single down the line. It seemed like a sure fire hit.

Relations between her and Sony pretty much plummeted soon after TGIFY I think, so she started prepping her exit after the tour was done which is why they pretty much abandoned the project after CTTA.
