Is Team Mariah tied to her, or is it a fan organization?

Found this Entertainment Weekly review of Merry Christmas. Amongst the highlights: the album is just a showcase for Mariah's "formidable, but cold, vocal chops" and calls AIWFCIY (plus the other original songs) a "standard wannabe". That's fun. Have a good laugh. I searched and found the Heartbreaker review - they gave it an F, and erroneously stated that it sampled Genius of Love, the same song that Fantasy sampled. That really pissed me off when I read it...like hello do your homework! I have always thought Heartbreaker was a fun single but she did veer dangerously close to self-plagiarism on that one...of course not to the degree of sampling the same track twice.

A few sources claimed that about the sample, actually. "Heartbreaker" does have the same bassline as "Fantasy" and the first line of the chorus has a melody like "Dreamlover," but apart from that I don't get the fuss.

JD has posted a letter to fans that is very worrisome:
Looking past the grammar errors, this situation sounds like a mess. And he's blaming everyone but himself. And WTH is he comparing Mariah to someone named Dondria? Ugh. It sounds like the facebook deal could be in trouble based on the signatures/legal sentence. And why does JD keep claiming this facebook deal hasn't been done before? Britney just did it last week!

Perhaps writing on Facebook with proper grammar in a hurry isn't JD's strength. But that's the least of his problems. Something's seriously wrong with all of this. He should not be anywhere near Mariah or any singer ever again. If this is the problem now, imagine what happens when he is 'unhappy' or not 'enthusiastic' about the album and scraps it all close to the release date. It seems like everything JD gets involved in nowadays gets totally fucked up. The mention of Dondria is so odd. Dondria is an R&B singer that JD discovered on YouTube a few years ago. She was signed to JD's label. But she has had only one top 20 single on the R&B chart. One could say she is mildly successful, but it's such a bizarre example and comparison to make given the difference between Mariah and her. Mariah has been extremely successful for nearly 2 decades. I wonder if the way JD was setting up the deal with FB for the new single was something different than just posting it as a video or stream on FB. Maybe he was thinking about messaging everyone who has 'liked' the Mariah page about the song, but maybe it's invasive to do it because some may not want that and it could be a potential issue.

Don't you usually have all the legal p's and q's done before you make such an announcement in the first place? The fact that he is still dealing with legal issues with FB says a lot about this situation. I can only blame Mariah for thinking he would be a great manager. Here I was thinking all of the stuff was taken care of before the announcement was made.

Oh so the guy who is facing bankruptcy and has serious financial issues is having problems managing and working on deals for a singer of the magnitude of Mariah, shocked! Nobody saw this coming at all.

I don't think anyone is shocked, but seriously a lot of what he is dealing with is common sense crap.

One should never ever announce something like that before it's a 100% done deal just in case it ends up not being possible at the last minute. It's so awful. Oh so the guy who is facing bankruptcy and has serious financial issues is having problems managing and working on deals for a singer of the magnitude of Mariah, shocked! Nobody saw this coming at all. There was a blind item a while back about how JD's alleged financial issues had something to do with paying Janet Jackson all this money to be his bust it baby. Alexyss also alluded to this a long time ago. Khia had been saying that there was some shady s**t going on and now it's all out in the open.

I am starting to wonder if JD being her manager was more his suggestion than it was hers. Sounds like he needed a way to get some fast money in his account. Well the only good news out of this is if he screws her over no more JD produced tracks.

He needs to distance himself from Global Grind when it comes to Mariah. He keeps trying to make that site happen but it is beyong BASIC. That has been one of his main issues with new artist that he has signed.

I'm not even sure what the point of that JD message is? Just a bunch of senseless rambling, because, in the end, the song will be available to listen to, buy, etc.

All we can do this time around is help MC by getting the word out on 11/11. Changing our profile pics, cover pics, updating our status about the 'TAOLG' song and of course buying it. That's all we can really do- Letting people know that there is a new song out. Most people don't know yet. If it spreads like wildfire on Facebook then she has a chance to get this amazing song heard. That's easy for us to do. (It takes no effort at all).
The hard stuff is up to JD and the label. Good luck.

I'm not sure whether JD is COMPLETELY managing... the sense I get is that it is her and Nick Cannon managing, with JD "co-managing" if that (as Mariah said in her BET interview). There's an article on Nick's website from a few days ago that says he is managing her career, and JD is just producing / collaborating. www.nickcannonarchives.com/25182/mariah-carey-nick-cannon-fun-setI feel more comfortable with Nick managing her career. After all, he's managed to build a name for himself off of silly shows even before Mariah. Yes, he doesn't have much experience in the music industry, but he's younger, more in touch with what kids want / how kids interact with celebrities than Benny Medina, JD, or more traditional managers. Plus, his incentives will always be aligned with hers, and as long as they're married, he won't steer her wrong. It will be like a little the Tommy / Mariah thing (although Mottola had far more connections and power), but Mariah having much more control.

^ that blog article says "her hubby Nick, her manager and good friend/producer Jermaine Dupree" The comma implies that Nick is just her hubby and JD is the manager and good friend/producer.

The song will still be ready and available tomorrow, right? So what the fuck is the problem?
Also... It's nice to know Mariah's main manager is literate, literacy goes a long way.

Me neither. And 'Heartbreaker's sample comes from 'Attack of the Name Game'.

My plan for today - get pass out drunk watching football and then have TAOLG to wake me up at 11AM.
That's the way to do it.
