after listening to the song again. Maybe it is directed to her label!! Watching her fall down and down... Maybe she feels she wasn't getting support especially after her injury and is ready to jump ship back to sony!

I'm guessing the Facebook promo was for 24 hours because the song is now on Spotify and the Vevo audio video is up again.
(PS I still say this is about Kelly Price)

Lovely range of melodies that still hold their own weight despite the lack of a clear cut hook or a chorus. That's a good thing, not a bad thing. Subtance-wise, it's a refreshing, more mature take on the breakup song away from the "omg u left me, i'm going to cry and kill myself" WBT teen style. Overall, this manages to work as a torch ballad without all the cheese.
So I agree with the top40 review. Mariah is trying to push her envelope after more than 2 decades in the business, and she's doing very well at it. But I guess that's not very surprising since this is first time in her career she took time to make music rather than being pressured by the recording career to fart mediocre albums every year or couple of years.
Also, I really can't at all the lambs complaining about this not being single material. At this stage of her career, the last thing she needs to care about is her chart sucess. If it comes fine, but it's more important she gets out good, respected product than popular stuff. I mean, Katy Purry dishes craptastic stuff that still manage to hit #1 each and every time, so why do you people need to care? SMH.

I remember people brow beating the folks that wanted Walter A back. They said that Walter A's sound was dated and wouldn't be a hit today.
Well, what the hell is THIS? It aint exactly Mimi 2014.

Mariah has had decades of success!! I don't think she will be hitting the food bank up any time soon...

At least you capitalized Apple the second time. Do you work for Apple, by any chance? Just wondering. I think Mariah wrote this song to you, her dear lamb, in order to help you let go of what I like to call Promotion Without Pay. She was so right about this song being universal. :'( Lol! No, I don't work for Apple and not really, that's funny though. Just trying to keep a positive energy up on a situation that is truly a GROWER, this song really does need to marinate with you for a bit before you realize how good it is. The power of these vocals keep slaying my life!

The first "Letting goooooo" seems kinda random and out of place. Right now, that's my biggest fault with the song. I love how she echoes herself at the end. I continue to be BLESSED by dem vocals and I like the lyrics actually. Yeah, it's not radio friendly, or an earworm, or a "hit" (I swear, everytime I read someone saying "this doesn't sound like a hit" or "this is not a hit", Clive Davis immediately comes to mind...) but...I prayed and prayed for a song where Mariah would not whisper AT ALL and where she wound not sound weak or frail and...my prayers were answered. Anything else, really, is ancillary at this point, to me. I wonder if this song is partially about Mimi FINALLY letting go of expectations by her fans to beat records, get number ones, and continue to see chart success. If so, Brava!

I don't see the main complaint from people who don't like the song being "this isn't radio friendly". They just don't think the song is good and have given reasons why. If you disagree, fine, but it hasn't been "this isn't radio friendly so I think it's bad".

My favorite Mariah song in YEARS. I was literally smiling and laughing with tears running down my face as I listened to it for the first time. It's SO Mariah, and that's why I love it. Her voice sounds so strong, and the sound is so classic. That last chorus sends me to places I haven't been in a while.
TAOLG + #Beautiful is my favorite 1st and 2nd single combination of hers since Fantasy/One Sweet Day. Mature, classy, beautiful... loving this new Mariah music. This album (whenever the hell it comes out) is going to be her ultimate masterpiece.

What are you trying imply that if someone doesn't like this song they should go listen to crap? I don't understand the logic here. If Mariah Carey was making with this song what you think she making I'd be throwing glitter at her. Crap that goes to #1 and crap that doesn't hold the same weight to me, end of the day its all crap.
Janelle Monae is my favorite current artist and she is allergic to radio that hasn't stopped me from loving her, honey. #Beautiful could have missed the hot 100 entirely and it would still be a incredible song. Stop painting this as something its not to ease your own insecurity about the song.

The first "Letting goooooo" seems kinda random and out of place. I've been questioning that "Letting go" line as well. It also makes it a difficult transition into the first chorus.

Things I appreciate about the song: - the gorgeous, cinematic intro (I have to re-listen almost every time) - the line "I no longer live in your dominion" - that strings run/arpeggio/whatever that starts at :45 in (and repeats at :48, 1:53, 1:58) - that first "letting goooo" - "dooown, doowwwn, doowwn, falling down" - the backing vocals that come in at 1:47 - the line "go to Mimi on your contacts, press delete" - the breakdown - the explosion into the final chorus - the final breath and then "It ain't easy baby" that provide great emotional closure

OK I spoke too soon. I AM COMPLETELY in love with this song It clicked after listening to it carefully
It is not a #1 single but I dont think that's her aim anymore. This is a MATURE well done piece of record. That final ONE MINUTE is one of the best things Mariah has done in the past 10 years of her career

I honestly feel as though this is a masterpiece.. the lyrics are so deep, the emotions so powerful and that voice is pure perfection. The last minute of the song takes me to church everytime I listen to it. Bravo! Bravo! Bravo! I love you Mariah and thank you!

I like the lyrics, though I think some people just find the song verbose. To me that is a style issue, though, more than good/bad.

Stop painting this as something its not to ease your own insecurity about the song. I see it a lot around here. I call it the Christina Aguilera defense. If people don't like the song, claim that they just don't get it because it's not for radio; it's real art, and you have to appreciate real art to get it. Or that "this is gospel, jazz.. you have to appreciate that" excuse I saw yesterday. Honey, you're talking to JAZZYsoul. I could just as easily turn around and say if your exposure to music was broader, you'd find plenty of artists doing the same thing Mariah tried to accomplish and doing it better.

^ I don't think it's necessarily that people can't deal with people thinking the song isn't great, it's their insistence that they are "right." There is no right or wrong, that's why it's called an opinion.
I do think some people are jumping on people who instantly said that they hated it because it is a grower and plenty of people (on this board and others) have already made a huge turnaround on it after 1 day.
Luckily, I loved it from the very first listen :)

Mariah: going to Idol every day was like going to hell.... with Satan.
She also said she doesn't like the politics of the show and how they'd require certain kinds of contestants to be put through.

I agree with her that American Idol sucks. I haven't watched since Jordin won season 7 (and I wasn't even a huge fan of that final two). Much as I love Mariah, not even she got me to watch American Idol last season.

The first "Letting goooooo" seems kinda random and out of place. I've been questioning that "Letting go" line as well. It also makes it a difficult transition into the first chorus. Yeah, it's abrupt and I wait for it and it just…comes out of nowhere? She gets it right the second time though. I just love the sound of this song. I was walking to the train station from work and it really hit me. This is easily one of the most relatable songs in her catalog for me…this and the much-maligned Bye Bye. No matter how rambling or pandering or whatever those songs may be, they speak to me personally and that's what I want from Mariah again, not a bunch of silliness. I realize different people feel different ways about this song. I am gonna keep it classy and just continue to enjoy this song until the next one comes along. I am really intrigued by the rest of the album now, either way.
