Can't speak for anyone else, but it's not "detracting" or energy-consuming on my end to say that someone's not the absolute best-selling, or that someone else is, based on estimates that are available to us. That's why the safest way to go is to say "one of the best-selling," rather than the, because, as jeng said, there is no official running tally.
