Does Maxwell's tweet mean it's produced by Jimmy & Terry? That may have killed my excitement for a Mariah/Maxwell duet. o, I didn't know they were still making music.

What were the last songs JJ&TL produced? I know they did Chaka Khan's single, "Angel," which was a nice enough track albeit nothing amazing, but that came out like over 5 years ago... and then there are those Usher songs mentioned in the previous page, which are cool I guess.
In any case, I hope they go retro; I'd love a Quiet Storm jam ideally. Mariah doesn't have one of those.

It's been that long since they've produced anything that was released; they produced songs for Usher, Keyshia Cole, and El DeBarge's 2010 albums. By the way, don't bother visiting their website for information. The most recent news is about Mariah's Charmbracelet tour and the song on the media player is Mya's "Free".

Between Pitchfork and PrettyMuchAmazing (where it was #36), this bodes well for a possible appearance on Acclaimed Music.
It is also worth noting that this is the first time Mariah makes it to a Year-End list since 'We Belong Together'.

Those rankings aren't high enough for placement in the top 3000, but Acclaimed Music will be expanding its database with the update next year (more entries), so it could pop up on the site, depending on whether there are other placements.

One of her most immediately acclaimed singles. It's a shame it wasn't a bigger hit.

Talking about duets, I think she should do something with James Blake. His vocal arrangements and harmonization remind me so much of her.
This whole album delay smacks of so much insecurity tbh. If she's not done with the album, fine, but then stop releasing first single after first single.

I wonder if Acclaimed Music will use this list.

^Single-critic lists aren't utilized for the year-end lists.
I didn't think my last post would warrant a frozen-Mimi giff, but, hey, keep em coming, they're fun.

The fact Beautiful is so acclaimed despite not being a hit from a woman who is expected to get hits (its not like she can get away by making great music and not getting hits like a Janelle Monae) is a testement to how good that song is. Probably my favorite Mimi single since 1999, actually it still might even be better than Heartbreaker but its hard to decide because that song has aged.

It's great that the song is faring well on critics' lists. It's also faring pretty well on my iPod, as it's my most-played Mariah track at the moment.
At this point, I'd just like there to be a song off the album that's at least half as good.

"AIWFCIY" is at #12 in the UK and only 15k away from 1 million in total sales. It should hit that this year. Does it still do as well anywhere besides the U.S. and UK? Does it have fairly new certs?

The fact that Beautiful is doing so well on critics lists really shows you how stupid those lists are in the first place. It's hardly her best opening single. It's no where near the pop perfection of Dreamlover, Fantasy or Vision Of Love. But getting the name of someone with established acclaim (Miguel) gets you automatic consideration. And people still swear by them as their Bible of Music Appreciation.

This is her one of her best "post millennial" singles and it deserves to be on MULTIPLE year end charts.

Um, yes, and it's not even close. Kaleidescope Dream has a metacritic score of 86. Nothing Mariah released received this sort of acclaim.

Metacrtitic is just but one barometer (and it's based on initial reviews, not year-end lists). On AM, his album is ranked decently, while "Adorn" is, as well. I don't know if he's the reason some critics are taking note, but it is a collaboration, after all.
A note: Among the 4,000 songs that should be added to the AM site next year as part of the expansion are "Emotions," "Fantasy," "Honey" and "Heartbreaker." At least there will be a place to see the citations those tracks have had. Mimi currently doesn't have any albums or songs in the top 3,000, but she has two albums bubbling under (BU entries on this site have no rank, as there are lots of them), and four songs bubbling under. The ranked songs may be increased to 4,000 or more; not sure.

But in the case of '#Beautiful' the thing that's been praised aside from their collaboration is Mariah's input on the song and how it feels like a return to form for her.

Yeah, which doesn't contradict my point. I don't know why some are getting defensive. I'm not saying that the song doesn't deserve the praise it's getting, or that it's good only because Miguel's on it. I'm saying that it got on their radar in the first place because a current critic darling played a major role. This is probably most true for more hipster sites that take themselves so seriously like Pitchfork. Mimi imo had quite a few better opening singles. One doesn't have to go that far actually for Dreamlover or VOL. Obsessed was more infectious.

The song is still a favorite in Japan. It's also her most successful song there as well. As we speak, AIWFCIY is currently #11 on Japan's overall iTunes chart. Impressive.

#Beautiful is arguably her best opening single since the 90s. The fact that Beautiful is doing so well on critics lists really shows you how stupid those lists are in the first place. It's hardly her best opening single.

"hardly her best opening single" and "arguably the best single since the 90s", how do these even contradict? I see some people need to go back to their elementary school reading classes. Who's clocked? Regardless, it's shocking if you're still 13, but people can change their opinions.

Admit that you changed your opinion AND that those two sentences are contradictory, and no one has a problem.

Admit that you changed your opinion AND that those two sentences are contradictory, and no one has a problem. LOLz. No you'll keep whatever problem you have, but I think the reading comprehension issues are much more critical. Now we can all move on.
