Interesting choices there! I would have put Always Be My Baby and We Belong Together on that list over some of the other songs that made that list period. It's also only songs with "Love" in the title.

mrlevine- those songs had the words "love" in their title- plus, it's based on chart performance. EDIT: Beaten to it. :) Is the combined rank taking into account other tracks with multiple listings? I see people post the combined stuff all the time, but wonder if they take other tracks into account.

^It had a stronger week-to-week performance, I guess. Also- "Dreamlover" was in the BDS/SoundScan era, so VOL and LTT are weighted to account for the overall shorter chart runs before then.

Mimi climb that itunes ladder its time we beat the ageism bullfrog the industry subscribes to cause we all know the only one who stands a chance to overcome it, its the eternally 12 year old beauty with the talent.

Why they still calling the album TAOLG?. Anyway, can't wait to see Mimi suffering in the forest.

Now everyone's gotta share the banners and music video on facebook/twitter/instagram. It's time to let everyone know it's out and let the song GROW!

I am loving "You're Mine (Eternal)," particularly when listening on headphones. The intro is reminiscent of Drake and is beautiful. The pre-chorus is just hypnotic in how the beat drops, and Mariah sings it. Love that, and it's the real hook of the song for me. I love the verse (the only verse!), too. The chorus is the weakest part of the song for me, though I love her voice on "I can't seem to give you up, you're mine." The backing vocals - especially in the back half - are great as usual.
I also think the production is different for her. What other track of hers has that arpeggio-lite keyboard riff? What else has those swooshing sounds? She hasn't really had a militaristic/marching beat like that before, either, except on the "Up Out My Face" outro. The song structure is unique in all of music, and the pre-chorus with its lack of a beat is unique as well. Even if she plays to some of her strengths, this is by no means a copy/imitation of anything else in her catalog.
Meanwhile, it's doing great on iTunes right now. I only hope radio follows that lead this time, unlike what happened with "#B" when its airplay never caught its sales.

Ryan seacrest on his kiss morning show this morning talked about how a former judge from last season had negative things to say about idol and how that really offended him (and he made it clear it was not Nicky). The usually diplomatic Ryan then said "don't come on this show for one season and act like you are bigger than this franchise because you aren't". I have never heard Ryan this angry at a star cause he's usually a big kiss ass I haven't been in this thread in awhile so this may have been mentioned, but it doesn't look like this actually happened. There doesn't seem to be video or any other confirmation of this quote, and it never really got reported in the media. I think someone made it up.

It's highly unlikely MiMi would cover a female singer (ISB and then bonus of Theme from Mahogany, are the notable exceptions). Otherwise, it's generally those 80s power ballads with a few R&B chestnuts. I have no problem with it; she loves those songs and it comes across. She has never turned in a disrespectful cover. The "Stay A Little While" part she sang for the "My All" remix was sung by a female. She sang female parts on covers of "Endless Love" and "Make It Last," not to mention covering "Don't Play That Song" and the female part of "With You I'm Born Again" in live performances. I agree that she isn't likely to cover female songs, especially at this point, but she hasn't exactly avoided it either.

jeng- you don't hear the "Touch-My-Body-isms" and similar stylings to stuff like WBT and other ballads? It's not a copy/imitation, but she does cull from various songs. Nothin' wrong in that.

I can understand 1996 as there was a ton of great music out that year and a lot of competition. No. I mean, I can understand some of the bigger losses, but 0-for-6 was not understandable. How did "One Sweet Day" lose Pop Collaboration? How did Daydream lose Pop Album when it was up for Album of the Year?

Someone posted the isolated audio track like a week after it aired. I remember it being linked here. What I remember someone posting was her mic audio, her singing throughout the performance to show that it was indeed live. That vid is somewhere on youtube. There was also some statements from one of the choir singers who talked about rehearsals and the performance and said it was all live. Regardless, the performance went over really well. Mariah was really into it and killed it on stage.

I disagree. Sprung, Secret Love, and When I Feel It were probably better than 3-4 tracks on TEOM. I don't think they fit in sonically, though, which is why they were probably excluded. DYTOM is also, in a word, epic. Becuase MB is flawless to me, though, I don't mind its exclusion (I also think it, thematically, was off base from the rest of the record, so I understand that too). "When I Feel It" was left off for sample issues, if I remember right. I think it fits the sonic nature of the album very well with its old-school sounds. It definitely goes with a song like "Your Girl" or even "Circles." "Secret Love" has a bit of an 80s feel to me and fits with "Get Your Number" and "Say Something." "Sprung" is the song that doesn't really fit sonically. I love all three of those album tracks, though. I take out "To The Floor" and "I Wish You Knew" on my iPod and put in those album tracks.

Although I'm not really much of a lamb, I'm excited about new Mimi. I bought YM this morning and I like it! It's a mix of WBT, TMB and TAOLG to me. I love that she displays such a range in the song with perfect notes and harmony. I like that the structure is nonconventional and that her voice sounds very clear. I don't think it's too catchy though, but I do think it's a good addition to her catalog. This may be the most excited I am for a Mimi album ever. Really. Mariah was never that popular back home. I became a big fan after Fantasy but then I didn't care much for her more urban albums. I liked songs but was just not that excited... And when I seemed to be really excited (WBT, TMB), a non relevant song came (SIO, BB). For this era, I loved Almost Home, really liked #B and appreciated the subtlety of TAOLG, and now this song convinced me too. I hope radio gives it a chance but I'm not hopeful. I mean, XO had an unconventional structure and struggled, #B was catchier and stopped at 15 The rollout is impressive still! It's great to see these legends still playing the game Hope she obtains another hit. Madonna made it 25 years into her career.

The only other songs that have strong second versions are Jason DeRulo, who is already #3 combined or not and Idina who combined is about .4000

This video looks like it will be a #slamjam. Hoping it will help propel it into the top 10. Top 5 would be #beautiful.

iTunes reverted back to an update from much earlier today, so now Mariah is nowhere near the Top 10. iTunes fucks up every time she releases a new single.

Is she playing off Adam and Eve vibes for the video? I swear my mind went there with the shots I am seeing. I love the color scheme for the video. Dear IDJ and iTunes, I am going to need you to get organized and stop messing up when Mariah releases a single. It isn't that hard to get it right.

Am I missing something, or does the original really only have one verse? I'm going to need a lyric video. Like, the hook/chorus is gorgeous, but she couldn't write 2 verses? I can't stand when artists do that. I love how Mariah is messing with song structure on this album! None of the three released songs from the album have the same song structure.

Who needs verses? With short attention spans today, all people want is the hooks. Mariah's a forward thinker. This. It's why "WBT" is short, and the same for "#B." Mariah ain't a fool.

Mariah and iTunes never run smoothly... It's clear to me that someone there dislikes her because there is an issue with literally every release of hers.
