I have no sympathy for him being shamed over this if he really lied about his STI status, which is what it looks like happened. I think the shaming is misplaced (it should he be directed at the lying, not the fact he has an STI), but I think it's warranted when someone lies and infects others with STIs. The lying is the worst of this and clearly shows what a piece of s*** he is, and now another lawsuit? Drag him down. |

Man this would hurt me if it were 2004. I stopped messing with Usher back in 2006ish when he came off like a homophobe in some magazine article talking about some, "Nobody in his crew rolls like that" when asked about gay rumors. He was cancelled then and I was a big fan. I even went to his concert and sat front row.

I legit want to know a) who leaked the docs from the first lawsuit since Maya said it wasn't her and b) how was that shit not sealed from the get-go since it involved personal health information
On one hand it's hard for me to muster up a lot of sympathy for Usher. Karma's not normally an attention whore but I don't know what else you could call what is happening to him rn...OTOH it is frustrating to see that he's basically about to watch his entire life get cancelled over a bunch of frivolous lawsuits that will have to be thrown out if none of those women have herpes (or can't definitively prove that they got it from him), thus accomplishing nothing other than ruining his reputation to the point that he can't make any money from here on out. Meanwhile R. Kelly literally makes more money whenever people are reminded of what a sick fuck he is. I just...ugh at the inconsistency.

Even if Usher did not disclose, or lied about, his status, these women consented to unprotected sex and therefore accepted the risks associated with it. They do bear some responsibility for their own sexual health and for their own decisions. I could understand Lisa Bloom's outrage if he was infecting people with HIV, but herpes is not exactly a life-threatening disease. It's a lifelong and inconvenient reminder of a bad decision. Now put down the pearls and grab that Valtrex script, Lisa.

Damn. His career is not going to recover from this. This is gonna be his super bowl incident, but worse. Going away and lying low isn't going to solve the problem. Unless he uses this moment to sincerely apologize and become an advocate he really is done. Even I have a hard time listening to his music the last few days without thinking about this. I get one verse in and have to change. Him knowingly spreading this is what's getting to people. People go to jail for that... wow, usher.

Ok, there's a couple of thoughts I have now...
1) Everyone is responsible for their sexual health (condoms, PrEP, PeP, TasP, communication/disclosure, antibiotics, antivirals, etc).
2) If you receive a STI diagnosis, you get it treated or cured (your sexual partners should too). If it's incurable, you disclose.
3) If you or someone sees any sort of symptoms, you abstain from sex.
4) There's ALWAYS a risk of STI, no matter who you have sex with or how many people you have sex with.
5) No one's medical history should be public knowledge. It's unethical and invasive.
6) Usher shouldn't have been having unprotected sex with anyone. Not only could he have infected someone, but he's even more vulnerable to contracting ANOTHER STI. When you have HSV2, it can increase your chances of HIV/HPV/HCV infection.
7) He did wrong (cheating, unprotected sex with an STI), but he doesn't deserve to be embarrassed and financially taken advantage of.
8) I hope that people actually go and get tested more often rather than making fun of someone's medical condition. I know these folks out here are NOT that responsible for their sexual health judging by the increasing rates of HIV and STIs, especially in the minority communities.

Yeah this will be the scandal that defines his career sadly. I'm fully expecting this to go the Tiger Woods/Bill Cosby route where numerous women come forward which will elevate the story even more.
I was on a roadtrip this past weekend and "Can U Handle It?" and "That's What It's Made For" (two of my favs from Confessions came on) and I agree with the previous owner that this whole story kinda killed the previous enjoyment of his music. In TWIMF he even talks about being safe multiples times. #mess
Much of his discography (and his BIG hits) can easily be made into a pun from this whole fiasco and will be a big part of why why he'll have a hard time recovering.
