I've seen those two at events that I wouldn't have even imagined him being at years ago (and that he wouldn't have ever taken Tameka to even if he'd gotten an invite). :wonders which events: Still, first and foremost Usher's profession is singer/entertainer, and while he's been lucky enough to secure a hit with T-Pain's 2007 scraps, he's currently at zero visibility. What kind of effective management allows a hit song to pop off without a video or any other promo? How hard is it to work with a stature as could-be large as Usher's and make a damn "I'M HERE!" statement at the beginning* of an era. *[eight months in]He never would've went avant garde and charged his phone with a woman's vagina just for a photo-op at Art Basel if he was still married to Tameka. She would've tried to kill the girl.

I'm all for personal growth and healthier relationships, but let's not pretend that a fleeting (and largely invisible) moment at an art exhibit is an any way helpful to launching an album campaign.

He has a hit on his hands. He should release the album in a month or so. That would allow IDM to peak and get maximum exposure.

Usher has chemistry with almost every person he meets. Is it wrong that sometimes I think him getting married would be a waste of time and good pheromones?

This is not the right single to launch the album with. He would open with 30-50k.

I don't see him clearing 100k first week out regardless of what he releases at this point.

big gap between 30k and 100k though. I'd rather him come with a better song and do 75-80k than rush something out in a month and do worse.

We think he'll sell less than Trey and Chris on his first week? I know people don't check for Usher like they used to but he will push units similar to Trey and Chris. Possibly more. He should release the song with Drake and release the album near his performance on the Grammys.
Looking 4 Myself was a flop considering his catalog-- but his lesser talent equals sold less units despite having more "buzz".

Looking 4 Myself was a flop considering his catalog-- but his lesser talent equals sold less units despite having more "buzz". But he's also releasing the album months after the previous singles and even though IDM is blowing up at radio, it's the kind of record that people might download but doesn't drive album sales for an artist like him. Considering L4M didn't crack 130k, I'd say 100k at best for his new album unless he's got a major trick up his sleeve.

He should release the song with Drake and release the album near his performance on the Grammys. Looking 4 Myself was a flop considering his catalog-- but his lesser talent equals sold less units despite having more "buzz". Well keep in mind that L4M did start off with two big urban hits, "Climax" and "Lemme See." He wasn't lacking in buzz at the time among his supposed core demographic. Trey and Chris released albums the same year and I would argue their hits, going into their release weeks, weren't anything as big as "Climax" was for Usher, yet they more or less matched his numbers. So that in itself kind of points to the uphill battle Usher has had to climb since then. It's been almost three years now so who knows what kind of sales decline may or may not affect him now. I think if he released an album in a month he'd have awful opening sales because he'd have to rush the project; the promotion wouldn't be lined up and like Insatiable and Shooter, I don't think IDM is strong enough to lead anything. I'm saying this with the assumption that he would do full press for his album release, and that kind of thing takes more time to plan. But as for releasing it later, I honestly don't have a clue what he would sell at this point. This is one time that I have absolutely no guess whatsoever. He could release more flops and still have enough of a fanbase to do 100k. Or he could come out with two solid hits and still come in under 100k because people are buying the singles but not actually checking for him anymore, or because pop fans think the album will be too urban for them, or because urban fans still don't trust him to put out a purely urban album, or all of those reasons. I also don't know what the ceiling is for him - like let's say best case scenario, he has a really solid recovery and puts out 3 or 4 big hits. Would that get him a platinum album or would he still find himself barely passing 500k? Not talking SPS sales, just raw album numbers. So I'm seriously stymied both on what to realistically hope for and on how to temper my expectations without being unnecessarily fatalistic about it. I also don't know what to expect from the music itself. IDM of all songs taking off doesn't give any sort of guidance as to what people want from him and I don't think he will give us an album full of that, but after being beat up for making trendy (at the time) pop songs and then mostly ignored for attempts to cater to urban again, I'm not sure where exactly he would or should try to go.

I also don't think the multiple false starts and year of delays makes the album look like a must buy. The fact that the song that finally hit is a song that's as subpar for him as "I Don't Mind" doesn't make me expect he's about to release a great album. He's capable of so much better than what he's been releasing.

"I Don't Mind" does not an album make. I'm thrilled to see it top 10 in national airplay, but I see this as punch to open up the floodgate again so that when he drops AN APPROPRIATE lead single, radio will pay more attention. It's important that he takes advantage of this momentum... but that means coming back with an innovative song by April that's more capable of launching an album. Now is NOT the time.

He needs another single before a release. I wonder what he's going to perform at the Grammys.

He needs another single before a release. I wonder what he's going to perform at the Grammys. Well as much as I would love to see everyone's heads implode when he performs "I Don't Mind" while surrounded by a stage full of strippers twerking for da gawds and a pit audience that has been given dollar bills to throw at the ladies making that money, money, money, he is probably part of a tribute to someone. Which I am also okay with because his actual singing voice is really underrated and a nice ballad performance could get him some deserved props (like what Tennessee Waltz/Natural Woman did for Kelly).

Based on the last AI update in Good Kisser's thread, it peaked at 40-41 million AI. Didn't feel like getting ticked at how badly She Came to Give It To You flopped so I didn't look for that one lol

"Paradise" is strong. It belongs to that retro style of music that I personally don't care for, but even I got into it. What stood out most is that even though it fits in with current trends, it was still very authentic. "She Came To Give It To You" for example came across as trend hopping.
I wonder how it would have done in place of "Good Kisser" or "She Came..."

That's part of the reason it's nominated for a Grammy.
