I enjoy when he was actual choreography and not just 4 minutes of pop-locking!

That no limit choreography is cool! I must admit that I recently got into crash. It's been on repeat for several days.

it better not be a tidal exclusive like he has been doing. The first week sales would be tragic.

I think in his case Tidal exclusive wouldn't be that bad. Since his 1st wk #'s gonna be tragic anyway so Tidal exclusive would be a descent excuse.

At this point, his album will be about as successful as Tidal no matter how he chooses to release it.

It's not going to do well without a hit on CHR - whatever Usher's urban fans may say about his pop singles being the reason for his low sales, we know urban doesn't like buying much so those fans alone will not carry him to a certification. His pop fans need to be reminded that he's still around. RCA may not have a clue rn, but they see to have figured out that much, which is probably why there's still no release date. I honestly wouldn't be opposed to him saying screw an album and just releasing singles as he sees fit. It might be an obvious avoidance of the inevitable, but if it's this obvious that an album from him would flop I sort of wonder why he should waste the time and money promoting one. (To clarify, I don't necessarily think this is a likely strategy, I just wouldn't be bothered if he did this.)
I wonder if he'll have something new for the iHeart Festival.

The artwork sucks, but at least we have a title, date and some sort of confirmation.

Hmm, seems like it would make more sense to release the album on the 23rd (week of iHeart festival) or 30th (week after), so he can let the his performance try to keep his opening numbers from being super tragic. I don't think there's any awareness or buzz for this right now and don't think it's worth trading that off for a softer (but probably still fairly steep) second-week drop.
I haven't had a great feeling about how this era is going to turn out for him and that artwork sure as hell ain't gonna help encourage more people to buy it, but I still somewhat look forward to this.

Perhaps he'll change it at the last minute. I remember how happy I was when the 8701 cover came out, versus that original All About U artwork he had on the promo copy.

I hope so, but he's been really consistent about using these statues for all his promo/cover art. If bad feedback didn't convince him to change it by now, I'm not sure he ever will. If you're talking about the All About U artwork I'm recalling, yeah, that was pretty bootleg.

Who buys things over an album cover anymore? If the music is good, his core base will buy it, period. He will do over 100k based off his name and the limited (no pun) success of "No Limit".

Thank goodness he changed the album title. I hope this comes out next month because I'm really tempted to purchase his singles.

That cover is an atrocity. But I'm stoked for new music. He was on the Howard Stern show the other day and gave a great interview. They talked in depth about his life and career. Here is a link to listen to the full interview.

The joke writes itself with that title. Still, I am ready. Crash sounded really nice in the car. LOL. That sentence is really awkward to write.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Has anyone seen the Lionel Richie "Hello" video where he's stalking that poor dumb blind girl? And then at the end he shows up and it turns out she was a stalker too and had sculpted his face in her art 101 class? But the sculpture actually looks like a bloated ass, drunk version of Lionel? Yeah, that's Usher's album cover.

If there were any people so inclined to buy something on a whim b/c they think the cover looks cool, this will not be the cover that reels them in, but no one was saying that anyone buys stuff over an album cover. We just think this one is hideous. Serious question: who is Usher's 'core base' these days? I am honestly not sure, and my pessimism about his opening week stems from this. I have a feeling people do him a moderate disservice by assuming none of his 'core' is comprised of pop fans, and he currently has no pop hit; most 30-40 somethings in the urban audience have probably mentally checked out on him - and on music buying in general, which tends to happen once they've aged out of being the contemporary urban demo; and younger urban fans are mostly a streaming generation. If you're the kind of person who will NOT buy an album simply because there may be a few non-r&b songs on it you don't like, you're not really a core fan IMO (nor are you actually giving the album a fair chance to prove or disprove itself as a whole) and that's how we ended up with the L4M era. But of course I am biased; I thought L4M was good music. "If the music is good" is tricky b/c urban keeps giving Usher hits for stuff like I Don't Mind and No Limit now but I don't hear anyone thinking that these types of songs are 'good' by Usher standards, or at least not good enough to be on pins and needles waiting for his album. So...??? I would like to believe he can still top 100k just based on his name, but I don't want to set myself up for disappointment. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm. (No really, thank you for giving me something positive to associate that cover with)

(No really, thank you for giving me something positive to associate that cover with) His fanbase ranges larger than the 30-40 range. I'm 28, and he's been prominent throughout my lifetime, and his career has been prevalent for a lot of age demographics, so his core base is hard to define. His first week numbers were similar to Chris Brown's "Fortune" on his last effort, and I don't think his base or potential sales have changed dramatically much since "Looking 4 Myself" or even "Raymond V Raymond" if it is marketed correctly, because believe it or not, people are WANTING good music from him and the genre.
