After getting such a great response from fans and the industry after performing this song on the ACMs, Kix and Ronnie have decided this will be the lead single from their forthcoming Greatest Hits Volume II package. The single officially impacts on July 5.
I'll post the sound clip as soon as it's available.
I would have expected at least one more single from RDR... there were a lot that could have been great: "Feels Good Don't It," "She Was Born To Run," "When We Were Kings," "Till My Dying Day."
I also would have expected at least one more full studio album before another Greatest Hits, considering their comeback was only two albums ago. I compiled a list of their hits since their last hits package:
How Long Gone If You See Him, If You See Her (w/ Reba) Husbands & Wives (iffy) South of Santa Fe (very iffy) You'll Always Be Loved By Me Beer Thirty (iffy) Ain't Nothing 'Bout You Only In America The Long Goodbye My Heart Is Lost To You Every River Red Dirt Road You Can't Take The Honky-Tonk Out Of The Girl That's What She Gets For Loving Me
Add "That's What It's All About" and probably at least two or three other new songs.
They only have about 11 bonafide hits (plus a few more of the iffys) and most of them were from their last two albums... which seems very recent.
While I'm a huge fan of theirs, I would have expected more singles from RDR and at least another studio album.

That's surprising to me too - I would've expected at least another single from Red Dirt Road (I was hoping for "When We Were KIngs").
I'd fully expect "Husbands & Wives" to be included - it did go to #1. A couple more hits that they had during this time were "I Can't Get Over You" (a #4 I think") and their version of "Missing You" (a top 15 hit). I doubt they'd include "South Of Santa Fe", though.

Wow, Husbands and Wives went #1? I don't remember that... LOL! And I didn't even know that Missing You was a single... let alone a top 5. I guess my radio station just didn't play that much.

I've always loved the lyrics to their songs and this is no exception. The melody is kinda lousy though and it makes this song forgettable.

Man, I heard them sing that song on the ACM's and I felt embarrassed for them. I didn't think it was a very good song and there performance sounded off to me. I have since heard it on the radio and all though it sounded better I still didn't care for it, I know they have better choices out there. I guess everyone is intitled to a crappy song every now and then. It took me a long time to like them but I have seen the light and know they are capable of doing netter if they just stick to what got them there and that's good solid music with a southwest flare not the caving in poptry junk.

Ugh. This song is very bland IMHO. The yelling or screaming or whatever I thought I heard the last two times I have heard it (I hope that is just the jockeys doing something stupid) was really not adding to the song. I liked "That's What She Gets".
Alas, my problem with Brooks and Dunn... I start liking a couple singles and then they put something out that makes me not want to buy their cd.

Here's the tracklisting for their new greatest hits CD, due out October 19th:
1) *"That's What It's All About" (Steve McEwan/Craig Wiseman) 2) "How Long Gone" (Shawn Camp/John Scott Sherrill) 3) "Ain't Nothing 'Bout You" (Tom Shapiro/Rivers Rutherford) 4) "The Long Goodbye" (Paul Brady/Ronan Keating) 5) "My Heart Is Lost To You" (Brett Beavers/Connie Harrington) 6) "I Can't Get Over You" (Ronnie Dunn/Terry McBride) 7) "Red Dirt Road" (Kix Brooks/Ronnie Dunn) 8) "Husbands and Wives" (Roger Miller) 9) "That's What She Gets For Loving Me" (Ronnie Dunn/Terry McBride) 10) "You Can't Take The Honky Tonk Out Of The Girl" (Bob DiPiero/Bart Allmand) 11)*"It's Getting Better All The Time" (Ronnie Bowman/Don Cook) 12) "Only In America" (Kix Brooks/Don Cook/Ronnie Rogers) 13) "A Man This Lonely" (Ronnie Dunn/Tommy Lee James) 14)* "Independent Trucker" (Chris Stapleton/Jeffrey Steele) 15) "I'll Never Forgive My Heart" (Ronnie Dunn/Janine Dunn/Dean Dillon) 16) "If You See Him (If You See Her)" [duet with Reba McEntire] (Tommy Lee James/Jennifer Kimball/Terry McBride) 17) "South of Santa Fe" (Kix Brooks/Paul Nelson/Larry Boone)
I'm surprised that "South Of Santa Fe" made it, since it was such a flop for them. The video was a hit, though. Plus, with 4 new songs, I doubt they'll go back to Red Dirt Road to release anything else, as was speculated when they released "That's What It's All About".
