I still want them to combine the songs and albums charts. I'd rather they remove all recurrency rules first. Don't use logic.

I want them to give older artists a 1.5x multiplier to counter ageism.

Never Gonna Give You Up It will be due to Billboard's new "novelty" formula, where they order songs without using chart points. Songs can also appear more than once.

I want them to give older artists a 1.5x multiplier to counter ageism. I would be cool with that. Maybe then Leonard Cohen would finally get a #1 single.

"Gentleman" is not going to debut at #1, remember "Harlem Shake" also had massive sales during its first week so that #1 spot was totally deserved and set in stone. It also had way, way, way more YouTube views, it was a phenomenon that came out of nowhere unlike anything we've seen, it blew up literally in 1-2 days. The problem with Harlem Shake was making those 30 second videos count as much as a full stream of the song, which they absolutely shouldn't. If a more reasonable rule had been in place, Harlem Shake would have been #1 for one or two weeks due to how immense it was (and that #1 would have been deserved, it totally took over pop culture for 2-3 weeks), but then it would have plummeted instead of being for fucking five weeks and still being Top 10.
A Top 10 debut for "Gentleman" is likely (I'm thinking between #4 and #8) and considering how much interest there is in the track from how many people are listening to it/watching it on YouTube, I don't see a problem with a high debut.

1-1 Honey, Bobby Goldsboro (3rd of 5 weeks at #1) 2-3 Cry Like A Baby, The Box Tops :) 3-2 Young Girl, Gary Puckett & The Union Gap :) 4-4 Madonna, The Beatles :) 5-5 (Sweet Sweet Baby) Since You've Been Gone, Aretha Franklin :) 6-9 I Got The Feelin' James Brown & The Famous Flames :) 7-6 (Sittin' On) The Dock Of The Bay, Otis Redding :) 8-8 Dance To The Music, Sly & The Family Stone :) 9-25 Tighten Up, Archie Bell & The Drells :) 10-7 The Ballad of Bonnie & Clyde, Georgie Fame
I don't think a song with lyrics along the lines of "Young Girl" could be a big hit now, at least as a pop song. Youtube won't even fill it if you try to search it by just the title or the group and the title. The song is there if you search for it but they won't suggest the rest of the title for you first. The same deal for Bruno Mars and "Young Girls". Must not pass the perv filter going there.

Gentlemen will be #1 by next week for sure. The short week could prevent the debut at #1 though

LOL at this week's Hot R&B / Hip-Hop Songs chart. The top three songs are by White artists. Wonder if that's ever happened before?

I don't think a song has ever debuted at #1 on the HOT100 without at least a top 3 placing on the sales chart. "Gentleman" could be the first. Welcome to the 21st century, there's this thing called internet now. One of the defenses of the Youtube weighting was that HS was an anomaly that would happen very rarely, so it would be funny seeing another song shoot to no. 1 mostly because of Youtube again so soon. (I think it's just an unfortunate coincidence.) Personally, I'm in the camp that desires "Pink this week, Psy next week".

Psy is the youtube master. Until his popularity wanes, he could wind up with a few youtube generated hits

Psy is the youtube master. Until his popularity wanes, he could wind up with a few youtube generated hits youtube generated being the key word since that's all they'll be. I mean Gentleman isn't even selling that great. How is it a true #1 based on people going to watch Psy's dumb antics and new dance routine? Ugh.

The record setting # of youtube views would suggest that it is popular.

"Gentleman" is sure to be a quick-rise, quick-fall song. It's got SO MANY views apparently, but it's still not top ten on iTunes. My guess is that most of these views it's getting are curiosity views. Its view count is sure to slow down within the coming weeks with its sales stalling in the same time frame as well.

It is #1 on itunes worldwide right now. Gangnam Style's sales ended up being more stable and higher in number than most probably expected. Who's to say Gentlemen won't follow a similar route? It's way to early to see how it will ultimately sell in the long run here.

In Canada, "Gentleman" is a close #2 (over 85%), which means it has caught on much faster than in the US. With a few exceptions (e.g. Canadian artists) Canada's digital songs chart follows the US pretty closely. For some reason it has not with Psy. Meanwhile will.i.am has shot up to #8 on ITunes in the US.
