Let's have us a little contest shall we? Give me some boneheaded moves that have happened so far this year in your opinion. Here are a couple of my thoughts.
Rushlow waiting forever to follow up I Can't Be Your Friend and Sweet Summer Rain bombs.
Chely Wright releasing Back of the Bottom Drawer as a "comback" single which bombed and lost her her deal.
Radio not playing It's All How You Look At It for Tracy Lawrence. This is a great song.
Scotty Emerick never releasing his album after what seems like 6 singles. I know they didn;t perform well but releasing all the singles on the album isn't going to help.
Shania not getting nominated AGAIN. Lover or hate her she deserves a nomination.
Getting Shania to come on the show and perform although not nominated.
It can be about an artist, radio in general, or anything country music related. I will compile the list and we will vote on the biggest bonehead move of the year so far.

Pushing Faith's album to 2005. The hype was there, she was in the news, perfect timing.
Mercury releasing "It Only Hurts.." instead of "Nah!", "In My Car", etc. (what a stupid move IMO)

I don't think there's anybody to blame for Chely Wright's single tanking; there are simply way too many country radio PDs who are way too afraid to give new and compelling songs such as that one a chance, and there are similarly far too many PDs who use the national charts as their #1 programming tool, instead of their websites, local retail sales, and request lines to judge a song's potential.
Some PDs have lots more guts than others, that's for sure.
Insofar as Faith's and Shania's upcoming CDs, I'm not sure how either one of them will do. Country radio has moved FAR to the left and back to its roots since September 11th, 2001, and considering that Ms. Hill hasn't had a full-blown smash at country radio in over half a decade, it remains to be seen if her new material will be closer to traditional country than the AC stuff such as 'Cry' & 'There'll You'll Be', both of which were HUGE at AC but very modest successes (per her previous track record) at country radio.
Ms, Twain may be in the same boat, but since 'COO' & 'TWIM' both sold gazillions of copies, I'm not sure how well her GH CD will do, given the format's swing back towards traditional country music. Perhaps her GH CD won't have the sustained success of those two monsters, but we'll just have to wait and see.

Lambasting Dixie Chicks from Country airwaves...still! >:( Sincerely, Noah Eaton Yes country radio lost something, something big, when the outstead the Chicks. But, being a Shania fan, all I have to say is who needs Nashville anyway. More power to the Chicks for sticking with Country.

IMO, these songs aren't very strong and would not have done very well either. The entire "Up" project is a very weak album lyrically and vocally. It looks like Mercury made the right decision to stop promoting this cd. Mercury releasing "It Only Hurts.." instead of "Nah!", "In My Car", etc. (what a stupid move IMO)

Dreamworks not releasing Emerson Drive's Waitin on Me and Coming Home as single in the United States.

Dreamworks releasing Emerson Drive. I have said before that What If? is my album of the year so far but it will never see the light of day.

I can't believe that Sony would release "You Do Your Thing" as a single for Montgomery Gentry. What a slow, boring song. They needed a strong follow-up to the #1 "If You Ever Stop Loving Me," and they sure missed the boat. It's losing spins and hasn't even cracked the top 20. What's everyone else's take?

I agree about "You Do Your Thing". I'm not really a Montgomery Gentry fan at all, but I don't mind a few of their songs. This one was just boring to me, nothing really good about it at all. I'm surprised that it was picked to follow "If You Ever Stop Loving Me". It may still make the top 20 (Reba, Jimmy/Martina, Brad will pass them, but there are a number of songs falling pretty fast in the top 20), but it's still a big disappointment for them.

Definitely agreed. Whoever chose that single probably suggested Brad Cotter's debut to be "I Meant To".

Hey Bamafan, I'll tell the guys you like their CD when I see them Tuesday. They have been busy writing some unbelieveably awesome songs. The next CD is really going to blow you away.
