Essentially. If she were to disappear right this second and never have a hit again, she'd end up like Paula Abdul in the sense that everyone would forget her until her name happened to pop back up somewhere for some reason (not necessarily as a judge on a reality show, but any similar case would do).

I don't understand what's so special about Bad Romance's video. I watched it when it came out, and it was just like any other pop music video to me. I think it's just because it got so many Youtube views that it got her fans excited, so they started running around saying it's iconic.

From this generation, the music videos to Love the Way You Lie, Sexy and I Know It, Somebody That I Used to Know, Gangnam Style, Call Me Maybe, THOSE are the ones that will go down in history imo. They did something different, something that got the world fascinated, or made people laugh, rather than the usual "dancing and holding poses in different costumes in different scenes" that we've seen over and over again for decades.

The videos with simple but unique, charming ideas are better than those videos that certain artists do which are just normal pop videos but just more complex and extravagant.

Sorry, but the "Call Me Maybe", "Somebody That I Used To Know", "Sexy & I Know It" videos are EXTREMELY basic compared to "Bad Romance".

It's funny to me how people have different perspectives of the music industry.

IMO, i was shocked to see that sales We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together were that high. Compared to all the other songs that have sold 3.5+, I thought it was a basic song that had little impact. If anything, I was thinking that song sold maybe high 2.0 or low 3's. Songs of Swift's that were massive were Love Story, You Belong With Me, and I Knew You Were Trouble- Not WANEGBT.

As for Bad Romance, I mean there are very few videos that were as massive and had as much as a cultural impact as that video. Maybe Gangnam Style. But really Call Me Maybe & Love The Way You Lie? Those videos won't be remembered- it will be the choruses of those songs that will be remembered.

LOL @ the notion of Taylor going the way of Paula Abdul. Even if Taylor dropped off the face of the Earth tomorrow, she's already found more success than Paula Abdul did in her prime (save a few Billboard Hot 100 #1 hits). We're four albums deep into her career, all of which experienced consistently phenomenal sales, she's produced hit after hit on multiple formats, and she's one of the biggest touring draws in the industry. Paula Abdul had two successful eras and then faded into oblivion. If we were on the Fearless era and she wasn't selling out stadium after stadium the comparison might be a bit more justified.

I don't follow this chart so I am not 100% sure but doesn't the Social 50 chart measure an artists CURRENT impact on pop culture?

In my opinion, all other conjecture on who is bigger than who is just speculation.

Taylor Swift may be considered a pop artist by some but she has country roots, something Paula Abdul did not have. Country artists tend to have longer life spans than pop artists

Which is annoying because Give it To Me is way better than 4 Minutes (and I love 4 minutes).
Same thing with Give Me All.... and Girl Gone Wild, love both but the latter is way better (and the video is awesome)
