I understand the notion that the possibility of being blocked from #1 increases the value of #1s; but I don't believe that means we necessarily need more #2s. For chart dates 04.02.11 to 04.07.12 every single song listed in the #2 position was at some point a #1 song. [Alternately explained as, there were no songs that peaked at #2 during that period of time.] Does that mean the #1s during that time were "undervalued" or something along those lines? Nope. Instead, I'd say it attests further to the strength of those #1s. Instead of allowing songs to peak at #2, instead the songs they were blocking were forced to be #3s; increasing the "value" of both the #1 and #2 slots. "Give Me Everything" getting a single week at #1 between "Rolling In The Deep" and "Party Rock Anthem" instead of being blocked at #2 didn't necessarily decrease the value of #1s. It simply meant that both the #1 and #2 slots were incredibly competitive during that period as a massive song like "Super Bass" were forced to settle for #3.

Sigh. I never should have let Mariah's updates get my hopes up. #17+ is a must :))

Sigh. I never should have let Mariah's updates get my hopes up. #17+ is a must :)) speaking of No. 17... Mariah Carey's thirteenth studio album has a release date: the pop superstar revealed that her next full-length is due out on July 23, and Island Def Jam has confirmed the date.
"The New Era Begins.. 7/23 #MC723," the 43-year-old singer posted to her 11 million Twitter followers. The album has been previewed by the Miguel duet "#Beautiful," which bumps up to No. 17 on the Hot 100 chart to be released in full tomorrow on Billboard.com.www.billboard.com/articles/news/1565760/mariah-carey-announces-album-release-date

So..how many weeks will CHU dominate? maybe 6 to 7 It should manage another week at #1, and after that Daft Punk and Robin Thicke will battle it out for the top spot. I thought Daft Punk was a lock for #1 until I saw Thicke's sales and airplay numbers explode over the last couple of weeks.

07 09 05 Think - Aretha Franklin It got there in five weeks and stalled at 7. I wonder why it momentum. Weren't the charts heavily sales based back then? Chart runs were also much shorter in general back then. The top 50 were 100% sales based, and only the top 21 markets were surveyed. "Think" is one of my favourite HOT 100 top 10 songs. It has an energy and momentum that I still find exciting.

Did Andy Gibbs' "Shadow Dancing" spend more weeks at #1 than any Bee Gees single? That's a bit... perplexing!
