Hi, everybody! I'm new to this message board and have been getting caught up on past posts. In the post about Reba's new single, "He Gets That From Me," there was reference to buying spins for "Somebody." Can somebody please enlighten me on this situation? I was under the impression that "Somebody" peaked at number 1 Billboard/number 2 R&R. Are these positions not correct? How would somebody go about buying spins, exactly? I mean, if that were the case, wouldn't other influential, powerful singers be doing the same thing? Any factual updates on this matter would be appreciated.

That song,as well as Terri Clark's 'I Wanna Do It All', both hit #1 in BB as a result of those labels buying spins on small and medium market radio stations in the midnight-6 AM time period as a way of manipulating the software which both BB & R&R used to monitor airplay.
Both songs peaked at #2 in R&R, and 'Somebody' has the EXTREMELY dubious distinction of gaining 1,000+ spins one week and losing 1,100+ spins the foloowing week.
BB mentioned that the last song to lose that many spins was a Pam Tillis song from the mid-nineties, I'm not sure which tune it was.

Terri's "I Wanna Do It All", did not reach number one on the charts.
I think you mean "Girls Lie Too"

You're correct; 'Girls Lie Too' is the song I had in mind.

I'm pretty sure it was "Mi Vida Loca" (If I remember rightly it fell from #1 to #17).
