ALAN JACKSON Monday Morning Church Producer(s): Keith Stegall Writer(s): B. Baxter, E. Enderlin Publisher(s): Cowboy Church Music, World House of Hits (ASCAP) Genre: COUNTRY Label/Catalog Number: Arista 82876-65205 (CD promo) Source: Billboard Magazine Originally Reviewed: October 23, 2004
"You left your Bible on the dresser so I put it in the drawer/'Cause I can't seem to talk to God without yelling anymore." Starting with these powerful opening lines, Jackson's heartfelt baritone vividly conveys the emotional angst a man feels as he wrestles with his faith following his wife's death. Jackson turns in a poignant performance, infusing each line with an honesty and integrity that makes the hurt, confusion and loss painfully palatable. The song, written by Brent Blazer and Erin Enderlin, is the fledgling songwriters' very first cut. They've penned a modern-day masterpiece that is already drawing comparisons to George Jones' heartbreak classic "He Stopped Loving Her Today." Patty Loveless contributes beautiful harmonies that add to the chill factor. This is one of the best songs to emerge from the country format this year. It will surely become one of Jackson's most memorable hits, making it one more defining moment in an already impressive career.—DEP

Wow. The review gave me chills. I can't wait to hear this. Sometimes AJ's songs get 'old hat,' but every album has at least one song that is so original for him.

I like this, though not as much as I thought I would upon reading the reviews. Should be a big hit, though I don't know if a song this heavy will be played enough to hit #1 (though songs like "Whiskey Lullaby" have done really well lately). www1.allaccess.com/sounds/alanjmon.ram

Patty Loveless' background vocals make the song. It's one of his better songs in a while, but I don't really love it.

Love it!!! Alan Jackson does get static sometimes, but then a song like this comes along and then people fall in love with his music all over again.

This is a no brainer #1, If someone doesn't like this song then it's probably the younger demo but for the old timers who love REAL COUNTRY with not a trace of pop or rock mixed in it. This is a traditional #1. For the life of me I can't see why they don't have 2 country formats. Country Contemporary & Modern Country

Has anybody heard what his next single will be, since this wonderful song appears to be running out of gas?
