How can these people keep doing this? It's out there for everyone to see!!! You can click on just about any statons website and see there playlist and how many spins each song gets and what time. It is SO OBVIOUS. I hate for it to come down to someone getting involved but something has to happen or we will see a bunch of no name one hit wonders take over the charts before long. That wouldn't be bad if the songs were decent but a lot of it will be crap!

B&D this week! +450 going to #1. If you look at Portland's station if I remember correctly, 55 spins overnight! That's up to 61 overnight spins now.... that's right, 61 SPINS OVERNIGHT!! :o Now I'm no rocket scientist here, but a song that garners 61 spins overnight is being played MORE THAN once an hour. And some people want us to believe there's nothing strange about this...?? ???

It appears that Toby's label has done it again with 'Honkytonk U'; it's mysteriously gained over 300 spins in the past two days per Mediabase.

Marv, don't know what charts you are using, but based on the ones that are used for R&R, Toby isn't that much off from all of the other artists. Think the majority of the change is due to the station change-up.
Dustin, that is over a week overnights not just one overnight. Still strange but there are a few stations that do really strange things such as WYUU and I can't remember the other ones that do the heavy hits periodically. I did a random check of about 20 stations and reviewed their spins vs audience and it appears there is only a few stations that did the overnight thing for B&D, but it appeared there were other artists the same thing was done. I should have written down the stations I tested, but... I know B&D has been on a radio station juncket lately don't know whether that had an impact or not. At least they were on a couple of morning shows I listen to lately.
I know this isn't going to show as it would in a spreadsheet so I apologize, but better than nothing I guess, I used comparisons of 4/21 - a few days ago (didn't have 4/22 data) and the last point used by R&R. Of the top 20 receiving increased spins the average increase was +331 from the last R&R report. Overall change with all was +214.

One more post on this subject and I'm done. After thinking about this, I would think that the labels would frown on stations doing the special spins inasmuch as they may lose their bullets lots sooner that way. Take MG for instance, they lost 61 spins through just WYUU alone this week. Add on decreased spins from other stations and now they have lost their bullet. If WYUU would have left it to normal spins they would have had a slower incline yes, but they may have retained their bullet. The same holds true for B&D. It's quite obvious they didn' need the overnight spins, but now they may lose their bullet faster and thus may cost them a wkk of multiple weeks at No. 1. It just doesn't make any sense to me for the label to mess with this -- as a general rule the label would only be hurting the song's ranking in the long run. Or what don't I understand about all of this.

Dustin, that is over a week overnights not just one overnight. LOL, yes I know that. But the song was still played more than once an hour. "Overnight" (if I'm not mistaking) is the six-hour time slot from 12am to 6am. Multiply that times the number of days in the week and you get 42. There's a total of 42 "overnight hours" in a week. If they played the song 61 times overnight during that 7-day span, they had to have played it more than once an hour.

The webiste I accidentally discovered for my remarks as it applies to Mediabase is www.mmr247.com/mmrweb/allaccess. Click on '7 Day report' to get spins activity for the current week ( end of time period is listed at the top), and you can click on 'Year-To-Date Results' to do just that!!!!

You can add Brooks & Dunn to the list of artists who've untilized middle-of-the-night spin-buying sprees on small radio stations to 'earn' a #1 single.
'IGBATT' is their 19th charttopper according to the current issue of BB, and one station in a small Georgia community gave it NINETY-SEVEN spins in a single week!!!!!
This is getting disgusting!!!!

I really don't believe B&D's label did anything -- they didn't need the spins for #1.
This isn't uncommon for certain stations.
Couple weeks ago WYUU had "Gone" at 114 spins for instance. A couple a days ago I think the same station you were referring to Marv, had JoDee at 96 spins during the week.
KTYS today shows "Making Memories..." with 89 spins (last week was at 97) and CCR's Alabama with 95, etc. etc. etc.
Really this a sad sign for certain stations that they play songs that often no matter who the artists is or how great a song is. I want variety!!
To update for charts this week (5/8/05) to show that there are other stations out there that do the same thing for a multitude of artists.
WYUU has JoDee at 112 spins for the week KTYS has Keith Urban-MBOU with 92 this week and last Tim McGraw-DOJ with 93 last week dropping to 40 this week Bobby Pinson-DAMHIK with 90 this week
Edit... someone had posted about Portland. I wonder how much their April performance there had to do with the spins?
