Diamond girl
Shania's Come On Over Album has reached 20 million sold in the USA for doublle diamond status. It's her 4th consecutive diamond award, the others being The Woman In Me and UP! albums. Shania is the official Diamond Girl in Music today. With Come on Over reaching 20 million, she is now tied for third on the all time list.
Led Zeppelin- 6 diamonds Beatles- 5 diamonds Shania- 4 diamonds Eagles- 4 diamonds Garth-4 diamonds
In country music, besides Garth and Shania, only the Dixie Chicks with 2 diamonds and Kenny Rogers with one diamond have any.
As far as female vocalists, Celine, Madonna, Whitney and Mariah are tied for 2.
Pretty awesome company.

This just goes to show you..Nashville can't sell DIAMOND records. Shania, Garth, Chicks, Kenny all were crossover successes.
I guess I can rant. The CMA refuses to nominate its best. They know it too. Did Kenny deserve it? Sure, but his tour is going to come in #2. Guess who's #1..??
Shania had the biggest selling album of 2003, she's the most played album of 2003, and she just got another award for Song of the Year from BMI this year. Billboard is going to award her another #1 country album too..
You cannot say Shania is not successful. It takes talent to sell, to crossover. Nashville also cannot produce a Top 3 tour either, Shania's got another..
This just goes to show that Nashville picks its superstars. The evidence is clear, they know it, Shania fans know it, Toby fans are learning it, and it is going to run them into the ground..

How were Garth and the Chicks crossover? None of their Diamond albums had crossover airplay. The Chicks did crossover with "Landslide", but Home didn't go Diamond.

Home did not go Diamond but Wide Open Spaces at 12M and Fly at 10M did. That's what I said. He attributed their Diamond sales to crossing over, when none of their Diamond albums had crossover airplay.

"Come On Over" reaching 20 million is an even more amazing accomplishment because "COO" is just 7 years old.
"Come On Over" is now, by far, the youngest album at 20 million or more.
The album at 20 million that is closest to "Come On Over" in age is Billy Joel's 2 CD Greatest Hits collection.
Billy's 2 cd set was released in 1985 - which means it is 12 years older than "Come On Over."
That album is the closest 20 million album to "Come On Over" in terms of age.
The other members of the 20 million club are:
28 Million - (1976) The Eagles, "Their Greatest Hits 1971 - 75"
26 Million - (1982) Michael Jackson, "Thriller"
23 Million - (1979) Pink Floyd, "The Wall"
22 Million - (1971) Led Zeppelin, "Led Zeppelin IV"
21 Million - (1985) Billy Joel, "Greatest Hits, Volumes I & II"
20 Million - (1980) AC/DC, "Back In Black"
20 Million - (1997) Shania Twain, "Come On Over"

I agree with a lot of what has been said. I think Shania is fantastic. She is truly one of the few females today that I think I have liked everything she put out. She is bouncy, she is range, she feels her music like very few people do. And she appeals to a wide range of people. I am not a normal country fan, but she doesn't sound like what country used to mean to me.
My daughter is actually the one that got me to listen to country several years back. When I knew country and was growing up it was "old time" country, with all the twang and everything. Now days, country is almost what rock and roll used to be years ago. I think that really helps some country artists---cause they get boths types of fans. People who liked the rock of the 60s and 70s can't find it any more on today's radio, as far as the "pop" type stations. If you don't like urban or hip hop or rap, you either go country or AC. Shania kind of climbs into that in between goal area that appeals to a lot. She has also had TV special time, which can be a big draw.
The remarks about country "pre deciding" who will be the top, by choosing from a small group---tell me how that is different than the other types of radio. If you are a guy, if you aren't rap or hip hop, you aren't going to get much radio play. The females can make it into radio, but not the guys who would truly be "pop" or "rock." Groups have some luck, but not individual guys.

Shania is such a huge star! She's in Europe this week pushing the greatest hits CD. A Double Diamond award is still an amazing feat. I am not understanding why UMG didn't have a big news conference and put that all over TV. Shania is shy I guess … ahhhhhhh.

SOMEONE FINALLY GETS IT!!! in Country Weekly magazine.. WHAT I LIKE ABOUT SHANIA IS SHE WRITES STORY SONGS, LIKE I DO. AND DOLLY DOES. SHE WRITES FROM HER HEART. AND THE SUITS IN NASHVILLE DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO ABOUT HER. ALL I KNOW IS THAT SHE CAN SING WITH ME ANY DAY OF THE WEEK." ---Loretta Lynn Way to go Loretta!! This is what Shania fans have been talking about for years--"Nashville don't know what to do with her!"
